Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) once again demonstrated its commitment to introducing Indonesian culture and local wisdom to the global community through the International Community Development (ICD) 2026 program. One of the highlights was the ecoprint batik workshop, which attracted enthusiastic participation from international attendees in Ngesrepbalong Village, Kendal Regency, on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Dozens of international participants from various countries eagerly learned the environmentally friendly batik‑making technique using natural materials such as leaves and plant pigments sourced directly from the surrounding environment. This hands‑on activity showcased the village’s unique cultural craftsmanship and its emphasis on sustainability.
Commitment to Global Networking and Sustainable Education
According to Alfath Yanuarto, S.Kom., Head of the International Office and SDGs Center at UNNES, ICD 2026 reflects UNNES’s commitment to building a global network centered on sustainability and community empowerment. He emphasized that the diversity of participants represents the spirit of inclusivity and international partnership continuously strengthened through UNNES’s collaborative initiatives.
Participants not only joined cultural activities but also engaged in community‑based experiential learning, focusing on sustainability practices and social awareness.
Beyond ecoprint, the ICD 2026 program also featured a variety of cultural and eco‑based activities, including:
- Tea blending class
- Janur (coconut leaf) weaving workshop
- Palm sugar making
- Herbal plant learning session
- Nature activities at the Curug Lawe–Sicepit area
These activities were designed to enhance participants’ understanding of sustainable living and local ecological wisdom.
Supported by the EQUITY Program
Prof. Dr. Sugianto, M.Si., Secretary of UNNES and Chair of the EQUITY Program, explained that ICD 2026 is supported by the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Impacts and Recognition Program (EQUITY Program).
This initiative aims to improve higher‑education quality, expand global collaboration, and increase universities’ contributions to society. He expressed hope that ICD 2026 would strengthen international cooperation and create meaningful learning experiences for participants while positively impacting the local community.
After the opening sessions held at the UNNES campus, participants continued the program in Ngesrepbalong Village, chosen for its rich natural resources, cultural values, and deep local wisdom—ideal for environmental and community‑based learning.
