The Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), in collaboration with the Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN) Central Java, held the TEFLIN Deep Learning Training and Workshop for English teachers throughout Central Java. This activity is part of TEFLIN’s national program to support the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s policy of encouraging the implementation of innovative learning approaches in schools.
The training and workshop were held on Sunday, July 27 and August 3, 2025, in the Round Room, FBS Dean’s Building, UNNES. English teachers from over 100 educational institutions across various regencies/cities in Central Java participated.
This program aims to improve the professionalism and pedagogical competence of English teachers through the introduction and practice of the Deep Learning approach, a method designed to foster higher-order thinking skills, creativity, and reflective learning in the classroom. This approach is applied to the four core language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
During the sessions, participants participated in various practical activities, collaborative workshops, and mentoring in the development and implementation of lesson plans. Participants also shared experiences and challenges in implementing this approach, fostering peer-to-peer learning and professional networking.
The Chair of TEFLIN Central Java and a lecturer in the Master of English Language Education Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FBS) at UNNES, Prof. Dr. Issy Yuliasri, M.Pd., stated that this activity was not only a training platform, but also a collaborative forum for exchanging ideas and best practices in implementing Deep Learning in English language learning.
Through this collaboration, FBS UNNES and TEFLIN Central Java affirmed their shared commitment to advancing quality education in Central Java, in line with national education goals and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education.
