Environmental Ecosystem Rehabilitation: UNNES Releases Five Thousand Fish Fingerlings

The Sub-directorate of Conservation at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), in collaboration with the Semarang City Fisheries Service, carried out an environmental ecosystem rehabilitation program by releasing five thousand fish fingerlings. This activity is part of efforts to maintain environmental balance while also supporting the university’s food security initiatives.

The release of the fish fingerlings aims to optimize the function of the embung (water reservoir) as a habitat for aquatic organisms, an environmental education facility, and a natural resource management site.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Nana Kariada Tri Martuti, M.Si., Head of the UNNES Conservation Sub-directorate, emphasized that every member of the academic community plays a significant role in realizing the university’s conservation vision:

“All members of the UNNES academic community must support the realization of a conservation-oriented campus. Starting from ourselves, we must care for the environment. Today we released five thousand fish fingerlings to make use of the embung and strengthen food security,” she stated during an interview at the UNNES embung in Semarang City on Tuesday (December 30, 2025).

Meanwhile, Mashitoh, S.Pi., M.Si., Head of the Capture Fisheries Division at the Semarang City Fisheries Service, said this is a positive step in rehabilitating the environmental ecosystem.

“We welcome this ecosystem rehabilitation initiative, which is one of our programs as well. Hopefully, this can continue so that we can keep supporting the food security programs at UNNES,” she concluded.
