Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) is still working to empower campus environments to handle leaf debris. In this instance, leaf waste is turned into a product with greater aesthetic and commercial value rather than just being utilized as compost, as is customary.
On Saturday, October 14, 2023, the UNNES Conservation Subdirectorate hosted leaf bone craft instruction in the lobby of the LPPM UNNES Building. Leaf bone crafts are handmade items such as key chains, bookmarks, paintings, and other items that are created from leaf bones by inventive and creative processing. Banyan and soursop leaves, which have been blanched and boiled, are used as the base materials for crafts.
47 international students participating in the UNNES Global Short Course Program came from a variety of nations, including Denmark, France, Brunei Darussalam, China, and Germany.
The training in leaf-bone craft was led by Dra. Widowati, M.Pd. The entire manufacturing process is demonstrated to the participants, starting with the boiling step and ending with finishing. The participants’ excitement for the thrilling exercise was evident from their features as they engaged in it. This is due to the fact that each step is visible and the material is diverse.
Furthermore, in addition to actively participating in the documentation process and raising questions, these international students were given the opportunity to put what they had learned into practice. After being split up into multiple groups, participants receive practicing aids and supplies. After that, they practice one-on-one with a partner.
They experimented with each technique until they had created a key chain and a bookmark that suited their particular creativity and preferences. Some students actually produce more than one item.
Participants in the UNNES Global Short Course Program can gain knowledge and expertise via this leaf bone craft training exercise.
