Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) again held its 107th Legen Tuesday Workshop with the theme “Caring for Human Harmony with Nature”, Monday (13 May 2024), in the Cultural Village. This regularly held event was attended by two speakers, namely Prof. Margaretha Rahayuningsih, professor from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNNES, and Gunretno, a figure from the Sedulur Sikep community.
Prof. Margaretha Rahayuningsih explained the importance of scientific understanding in maintaining ecosystem balance. He emphasized that natural balance is the result of harmonious interaction between humans and the environment. Science must be a guide in managing natural resources so that sustainability can be guaranteed. He also invited all participants to be more concerned and active in conservation activities.
Gunretno shared his perspective on living in harmony with nature based on local wisdom. Sedulur Sikep, who is known for living a simple and harmonious life with the environment, provides a concrete example of how humans can live without destroying nature. “We believe that protecting nature is protecting life itself. “Harmony with nature is the key to true prosperity,” said Gunretno.
This workshop was attended by various groups, from students, lecturers, to the general public. They actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and share views. This discussion opens insight into the importance of harmony between humans and nature in a modern context. Some of the issues discussed include the impact of climate change, deforestation, and the importance of renewable energy.
The 107th Legen Tuesday Workshop succeeded in reaffirming the importance of maintaining harmony between humans and nature. With a combination of scientific perspectives and local wisdom, the speakers succeeded in providing a comprehensive view of the efforts that can be made to achieve sustainability. It is hoped that this event can inspire more people to play an active role in protecting the environment for a better future.
This workshop is part of UNNES’ commitment to supporting sustainable education and environmental conservation. By presenting competent resource persons, UNNES hopes to continue to contribute to spreading awareness and real action to care for our beloved earth.
