Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) lecturers, staff and students will present an art performance that combines various forms of art elements on one stage at the UNNES Cultural Village, Sekaran, Gunungpati, Semarang City, Friday (14 June 2024), at 19.30 WIB. The performance entitled “Cakra Manggilingan” will feature a harmonious combination of wayang kulit, wayang golek, dance drama, music, fashion shows, and wushu.
Chairman of the 59th Anniversary Committee, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, stated that the “Cakra Manggilingan” performance was a unique artistic collaboration, carrying the theme of the cycle of life and wisdom. “Cakra Manggilingan” itself is taken from Javanese philosophy which describes the wheel of life that keeps turning, teaching deep local wisdom values. “We invite the wider community to come to watch this performance which will present artistic elements mixed in an interesting way,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UNNES, Thursday (13/06/2024).
The performance will feature three UNNES student puppeteers, namely Dimas Ageng (student of the Javanese Language and Literature Education Study Program), Asep Wadi (student of the Doctoral Arts Education Study Program), and Adhitya Bayu (student of the Javanese Language and Literature Education Study Program).
Not only that, the “Cakra Manggilingan” performance will also feature a dance drama which is integral to the performance. This collaboration will present classical and contemporary dance combined with gamelan and modern music, creating artistic creations that are full of meaning. With beautiful and expressive dance movements, the dancers convey philosophical messages to the audience.
The organizer of the activity, Dr. Widodo Brotosejati, stated that the collaboration stage was a routine agenda for UNNES to accommodate the talents and interests of the academic community. According to him, the campus continues to maximize the best potential of lecturers and students so that they continue to develop and become characters. This is in line with UNNES’s vision which is committed to developing the conservation of values and character in accordance with national culture.
“We hope that this event can become an opportunity to preserve and promote national culture to the younger generation and inspire people to love and appreciate Indonesia’s unique culture more,” said the FBS UNNES lecturer.
