In order to support sustainable development in various sectors, the leadership of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) visited the Central Java Governor’s Office, Monday (6/23/2025). This visit discussed the program synergy between UNNES and the Central Java Provincial Government, especially in environmental issues, poverty alleviation, and community services.
UNNES Chancellor, Prof. Dr. S Martono, M.Sc., explained that UNNES has implemented a number of programs that directly support regional development, especially through a transformative education approach.
“UNNES has implemented the Prior Learning Recognition (RPL) program involving village officials in various regions. In addition, through the Thematic Community Service (KKN) program, UNNES continues to strive to be present in the community with concrete and impactful service,” he explained.
This meeting specifically discussed opportunities for cooperation in supporting the Giant Sea Wall Semarang program, a national strategic project for handling tidal flooding and improving the quality of the coastal environment. One important aspect discussed was the involvement of universities in planting and maintaining mangrove trees sustainably.
The Governor of Central Java, Commissioner General of Police (Ret.) Drs. Ahmad Luthfi, S.H., S.St.M.K., invited UNNES experts and academics to play an active role in supporting the Giant Sea Wall Semarang program, which is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) for handling tidal flooding and climate change in coastal areas.

He also emphasized his commitment to supporting UNNES’s role as an educational institution that has an important role in developing public services based on the tri dharma of higher education.
In addition to environmental issues, the Central Java Provincial Government also invited UNNES to play an active role in overcoming the poverty rate which is still around 9 percent. The contribution of academics, applied research, and community service are expected to be part of the long-term solution.
In the health sector, the Governor introduced the Jateng Speling (Central Java Healthy Mobile) program which provides direct health services to the community in various regions. This program opens up opportunities for contributions from the UNNES Medical Study Program.
