In 2023, the UI GreenMetric World University, a global green campus ranking, will take place once more. For the thirteenth time, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has entered this competition through the Conservation Subdirectorate.
Usage Being the first ranking system for higher education in the world that emphasizes the dedication of universities to preserving the sustainability of their campus environments, GreenMetric has a unique place in the higher education industry. Numerous indicators are used in the assessment and evaluation process, including the infrastructure and conditions of the campus (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste management (18%), water consumption (10%), transportation (18%), and education and research (18%).
UNNES has been involved with UI GreenMetric since the beginning, contributing to the system by filling in the instruments that were already there. Beginning on May 15 and ending on October 31, 2023, the UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate will be directly in charge of overseeing the indicator filling process.
In addition to serving as a means of engagement, UNNES uses the information provided by participants to conduct impartial evaluations and enhance development efforts aimed at creating a green campus that is ecologically sustainable.
In December 2023, the UI GreenMetric ranking will be revealed. In the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings from the previous year, UNNES was able to secure the 6th National and 42nd World rankings.
Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Sc., the chancellor of UNNES, reaffirmed the university’s pledge to compete as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance the standard of the campus environment.
“We are aware of the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability for the future, and we are committed to continuing to improve sustainable practices at UNNES,” Professor Martono stated.
In order to preserve the sustainability of the campus environment, UNNES has implemented a variety of significant initiatives. Reducing plastic waste, utilizing renewable energy, creating green spaces, and educating students, instructors, and educational staff at UNNES about environmental issues are just a few of the actions that have been done.
UNNES intends to contribute positively to the environment and advance sustainability practices through this involvement.
