Send-Off of Seven PTM Students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FT UNNES) to UNIMAS Malaysia: Strengthening International Research Collaboration in the Field of Dental Implant Biomechanics

Semarang, June 25, 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FT UNNES) has once again strengthened its commitment to building international academic networks by sending off seven students from the Mechanical Engineering Education (PTM) Study Program who will participate in Outbound Student Mobility and Joint Research at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Malaysia.

The send-off ceremony, held on Thursday (June 25) at the Faculty of Engineering, UNNES, was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T. Also present were the Vice Dean I for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr.-Ing. Dhidik Prastiyanto, S.T., M.T.; the Vice Dean II for Planning and Resources, Dr. Sri Handayani, M.Pd.; The Vice Dean III for Business, Research, and Cooperation, Rusiyanto, S.Pd., M.T.; and the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program, Ir. Kriswanto, S.Pd., M.T.

The students who will have the opportunity to participate in this international program are:

For 22 days, the students will participate in Outbound Student Mobility activities combined with Joint Research with researchers at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. The research will focus on computational-based biomechanical analysis and optimization of dental implant geometric design, a multidisciplinary research field that integrates mechanical engineering, biomechanics, numerical simulation based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and modern healthcare technology.

The research will be supervised by Mohd Syahmi bin Jamaludin, B.Eng., M.Eng., Ph.D. from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Ir. Kriswanto, S.Pd., M.T. from Semarang State University, a concrete example of international research collaboration that encourages innovation and globally reputable scientific publications.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UNNES, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., stated that the opportunity to study abroad is an academic mandate that must be carried out with full responsibility, integrity, and a passion for continuous development.

“The opportunity to participate in this program is both an honor and a responsibility. I hope all students will take full advantage of every learning and research process, be courageous in discussions, actively explore knowledge, and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Be ambassadors of the UNNES Faculty of Engineering who reflect excellent character, integrity, discipline, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate in an international academic environment.”

He further emphasized that the success of the program is measured not only by the experience abroad, but also by the scientific contributions they make upon returning to Indonesia.

“Respect all regulations, academic culture, and professional values ​​at partner institutions. Build networks with international lecturers and researchers, as these networks can provide a gateway to broader research collaborations and opportunities to obtain scholarships for further study at the Master’s level. I also hope that the research conducted will produce scientific publications, technological innovations, and outputs that provide tangible benefits to UNNES, UNIMAS, and the community. Document every activity well, professionally, and in accordance with regulations so that this valuable experience can inspire other students.”

The Head of the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program, Ir. Kriswanto, S.Pd., M.T., stated that this program is part of the PTM Study Program’s internationalization strategy to improve the quality of research-based learning, expand global collaboration, and strengthen the culture of scientific publication among students.

Through direct involvement in international research, students are expected to gain authentic experience in solving engineering problems using computational scientific approaches, improve research competencies, cross-cultural academic communication skills, and expand their professional networks, which will be crucial assets for career development and further study.

The Outbound Student Mobility and Joint Research program is also aligned with the Impactful Education and Technology (Diktisaintek) policy, which encourages universities to produce graduates who are adaptive, innovative, globally competitive, and able to make real contributions through education, research, and international collaboration. Furthermore, this activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through the development of biomechanics-based health technology.
