Gugus Konservasi FISIP membawa isu konservasi air ke ruang podcast SMP Negeri 24 Semarang. Mereka membedah praktik rain water harvesting (RWH) atau pemanenan air hujan sebagai bagian dari tujuan keenam Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): air bersih dan sanitasi layak.


Ketua Gugus Konservasi FISIP, Rudi Salam, menjelaskan pemanenan air hujan bisa menjadi sumber daya air alternatif bagi sekolah. Caranya sederhana: air hujan ditampung dari atap melalui talang, dialirkan ke bak penampungan dengan pipa yang dilengkapi filter, lalu dimanfaatkan untuk kebutuhan non-konsumsi seperti membilas toilet atau menyiram tanaman. “Selain mengurangi penggunaan air tanah, ini juga hemat biaya dan memberi contoh konservasi air bagi lingkungan,” kata Rudi, Kamis siang, 4 September, Semarang.


Nining Wahyuningsih, anggota Gugus Konservasi, menambahkan pemanfaatan air hujan di sekolah bisa diperluas untuk kebutuhan wudhu di masjid, penyiraman kebun, hingga membersihkan halaman sekolah. “Sekolah tidak hanya hemat air, tapi juga memberi edukasi lingkungan bagi siswa,” ujarnya.


Dukungan datang dari pihak sekolah. Slamet Budiyono, mewakili Wakil Kepala Sekolah bidang Sarana dan Prasarana, menyampaikan apresiasi atas inisiasi itu. Purwadi, wali kelas 9H, bahkan sudah menyiapkan rancangan teknis: dari permukaan atap sebagai area penangkap, talang dan pipa menuju sistem penampungan, hingga sistem first flush untuk membuang kotoran awal. Air kemudian melewati filter pasir dan dakron, masuk ke tangki tandon, lalu dialirkan ke titik penggunaan.


Jika penuh, kelebihan air disalurkan ke sumur resapan.“Inovasi sederhana, tapi dampaknya besar untuk sekolah dan lingkungan,” tutur Rudi Salam menutup diskusi.
