FIPP UNNES and Monash University Strengthen Research Collaboration on Student Belonging and Well-Being

Semarang, October 9, 2025 — The Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) of Semarang State University (UNNES) is strengthening its international research collaboration with Monash University, Australia, by developing research on student well-being and sense of belonging. This collaboration is part of an effort to expand the global academic network while supporting the development of research focused on student experiences and well-being in higher education environments.
The meeting between the FIPP UNNES and Monash University teams provided a space to exchange ideas, discuss research directions, and strengthen academic collaboration. The research focuses on sense of belonging related to how students feel accepted, connected, and supported within the campus environment. This aspect is important to understand because students’ experiences during higher education are not only related to academic achievement, but also to psychological and social well-being.
Through this collaboration, both institutions are expected to develop research that provides a deeper understanding of the factors that support student well-being. The research results have the potential to become the basis for the development of more inclusive learning environments, more responsive student support, and higher education policies that consider student experiences and needs.
This activity supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Healthy and Prosperous Lives through attention to the psychological well-being of students. In addition, this collaboration is related to SDG 4: Quality Education, specifically in encouraging the creation of an inclusive higher education environment and supporting learning success. The research partnership between FIPP UNNES and Monash University is also in line with SDG 17: Partnerships to Achieve the Goals by strengthening international cooperation in the development of science.
Through this research collaboration, FIPP UNNES continues to expand its contribution to the development of educational and psychological research at the global level. The collaboration with Monash University is expected to produce knowledge that is useful for the development of higher education services, improving student welfare, and strengthening sustainable academic partnerships.
