Wartawan “Kedaulatan Rakyat” Itu Lulus Doktor

Wartawan Kedaulatan Rakyat Group Sugeng Irianto meraih gelar doktor Ilmu Pendidikan Bahasa (Inggris) dari Pascasarjana Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) Jumat sore (31/08).

Dalam sidang ujian promosi doktor yang diketuai Rektor UNNES Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum, Sekretaris Prof Dr Achmad Slamet MSi (Direktur Pascasarjana) dan Prof Dr Januarius Mujiyanto MHum (Kaprodi S3 Pendidikan Bahasa/penguji), penguji eksternal Prof Dr Suwandi MPd dan penguji internal Prof Dr Dwi Rukmini MPd promovendus berhasil mempertahankan disertasi berjudul “the Adoption of Fairclough and White Rose’s Concept of Critical Discourse Analysis in Appraising Articles on Negara Islam Indonesia in the Jakarta Post Headlines and Editorial”.

Saat menyampaikan paparan disertasinya Sugeng Irianto menjelaskan,  perlunya tindakan analisis kritis bagi seseorang saat membaca sebuah teks agar bisa mengetahui persis apa yang ada di balik teks tersebut. Termasuk tujuan teks dibuat, fitur fitur bahasa apa saja yang dipakai, ideologi yang diselipkan oleh penulis  lewat teks tersebut dan kecenderungan ke arah mana penulis/pembicara dan lain sebagainya.

Ia juga memaparkan, dengan ilmu critical discourse analisis atau kajian wacana kritis, pembaca/pendengar bisa memahami teks lebih mendalam, tidak hanya luarannya saja. Bagi guru atau dosen, lewat pengetahuan CDA pula mereka bisa memilih teks bahan ajar relatif lebih baik, lebih pas dan lebih cocok bagi para siswa atau mahasiswanya. Dan bagi siswa/mahasiswa atau masyarakat, lewat CDA mereka akan lebih berhati hati dalam membaca/mendengar sebuah teks serta tidak menerima begitu saja sebuah teks tanpa mengetahui dulu apa kira kira semua yang ada “di balik teks” tersebut”.

Promovendus dengan Promotor Prof Dr Sukarno MSi, co promotor Dr Djoko Sutopo MSi dan anggota promotor Prof Dr Mursid Saleh MA PhD dinyatakan lulus dengan IPK 3,97 dan tercatat sebagai doktor ke 398 yang dihasilkan UNNES serta doktor ke 75 lulusan S3 Pendidikan Bahasa Pasacasarjana UNNES.

Sugeng Irianto pernah tercatat sebagai penerima Hibah Disertasi Doktor dan mengiktui Sandwich Like Program di Ohio State University (OSU) Amerika.
