Unnes Sabet Emas Debat Bahasa Arab

Tim Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) berhasil menyabet medali emas pada lomba Debat Bahasa Arab di ajang Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Tingkat Nasional (Pimnas) XXV di Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Selasa (10/7) malam.

Mereka adalah Gilar Rizqi Nugroho dan Jamat Jamil, keduanya dari program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni. Selain juara I, Jamat Jamil juga terpilih menjadi pendebat terbaik. Juara II Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) dan juara III Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta.

“Pada babak final kami bertemu dengan lawan-lawan yang sangat tangguh, yakni tim UGM, UII, dan UM,” kata Gilar.

Gilar juga mengakui sebelum berlangsung babak final dirinya waswas karena tema belum juga disebutkan oleh panitia. “Namun optimisme muncul dalam diri kami setelah mengetahui tema yang akan diperdebatkan, yaitu pemberian hukuman mati bagi para koruptor,” ungkapnya.

Lomba Bahasa Arab kali ini dikemas dengan sistem British yang mempertandingkan empat tim dalam babak final dengan dua tim pro dan dua tim kontra. Perdebatan berlangsung sengit manakala peserta memberikan paparan yang kemudian disanggah oleh tim lawan.

“Kami merasa senang sekali dan tidak terduga kami bisa memperoleh gelar juara pertama dengan persiapan yang sebenarnya belum maksimal. Kami hanya menargetkan lebih baik dari tahun 2011 di Makassar. Saat itu kami hanya memperoleh peringkat kelima. Tetapi alhamdulillah, Allah menganugerahkan lebih kepada tim kami,” ungkap Jamat Jambil tersenyum gembira.

Hingga berita ini ditulis, tim debat bahasa Inggris sedang berjuang dalam babak perempat final menghadapi tim Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.
