Unnes, Batik Gunakan 51 Gulma Masuk MURI

Siapa sangka gulma atau rumput liar di sekeliling kita yang selama ini dipandang sebagai tanaman pengganggu, tanaman yang tidak bermanfaat, dan tanaman yang merusak tanaman budidaya setelah diteliti mempunyai nilai ekonomis yang luar biasa.

Adalah Dr Ir Rodia Syamwil MPd dosen Fakultas Teknik Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) dan puluhan mahasiswanya meneliti 51 jenis gulma sebagai bahan pewarna batik berhasil memperoleh rekor dicatat oleh Museum Rekor Dunia Indonesia (MURI) dengan nomor 7334/R.MURI/III/2016.

Penghargaan dianugerahkan kepada Universitas Negeri Semarang atas nama Rektor Pemrakarsa Pembuatan Batik dengan Pewarna dari Jenis Gulma Terbanyak. Penghargaan diserahkan oleh Tim MURI Aryani Siregar kepada Rektor Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum.

Dr Rodia juga mengemukakan, biasanya para petani atau masyarakat mencabut, membuang, dan bahkan membakar gulma yang tumbuh liar, supaya kebun serta halaman mereka bersih dan rapi.

Namun, gulma di tangan 51 mahasiswa Unnes yang dianggap oleh petani atau masyarakat tidak berguna itu bisa bermanfaat yang luar biasa.

Menurut Dr Rodia, bentuk daun, bunga, dan akar gulma dijadikan ide untuk mengembangkan motif batik. Kemudian, Ektrak gulma dimanfaatkan untuk mewarnai kain batik yang biladipadukan dengan tiga jenis mordant atau fiksator menghasilkan sekitar 153 jenis warna.

Selain itu, gulma merupakan zat warna alami yang selama ini oleh kebanyakan pengrajin batik hanya untuk pencelupan saja, ternyata kami buktikan dapat pula dicoletkan, terang Dr Rodia.

Prof Fathur menyampaikan, temuan gulma sebagai pewarna batik ini merupakan pemenuhan terhadap akselerasi inovasi Unnes sebagai universitas konservasi.

Menurut Prof Fathur, nilai konservasi itu yakni nilai budaya dalam bentuk pelestarian batik dan konservasi terhadap lingkungan karena menghasilkan pewarna alam terbarukan.
