Tim Pengabdian FT UNNES Berikan Bantuan Mesin Pengering Tepung untuk UMKM Kota Semarang

Tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat Jurusan Teknik Mesin Fakultas Teknik Universitas Negeri Semarang (FT UNNES) melaksanakan pengabdian di salah satu desa Binaan UNNES yaitu Kelurahan Kandri Kecamatan Gunungpati Kota Semarang.

Tim terdiri Widi Widayat, Wahyudi, Karnowo dan Octavianti Paramita ini bermitra dengan UMKM Kampung Telo milik Sartono. UMKM ini memproduksi berbagai produk olahan ketela pohon, salah satu produknya adalah tepung mocaf.

“Pada produksi tepung mocaf, mitra mengalami kendala pada proses pengeringan bahan baku karena masih mengandalkan pengeringan dengan penjemuran. Bila cuaca tidak mendukung, maka kualitas tepung menjadi tidak konsisten dan kapasitasnya turun drastis” ujar Widi Widayat Senin (31/10).

Berdasarkan permasalahan mitra tersebut tim membuat mesin pengering yang bisa dimanfaatkan oleh mitra sehingga bisa meningkatkan kapasitas produksi tepung mocaf, lebih efisien waktu dan tidak lagi tergantung pada sinar matahari untuk proses pengeringan.

“Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memperbaiki proses pengeringan bahan baku dengan cara menerapkan mesin pengering pada alur proses produksi mitra. Mesin dibuat dengan bahan stainless steel, terdiri dari 10 rak pengering dengan pemanas berdaya 600W dan kipas pendorong udara. Mesin dilengkapi thermocontroller, flow speed controller, timer dan alarm” tambah Widi Widayat.

Lebih lanjut menurutnya, penerapan mesin pengering ini telah berhasil memperbaiki proses dan kualitas produk. Bahan tepung mocaf dapat dikeringkan dengan proses yang lebih higienis karena dilakukan dalam ruang tertutup, lebih cepat dan tidak terganting cuaca, serta penampilan bahan yang lebih konsisten.

“Pengeringan 25 kg bahan baku dengan temperatur 40 derajat Celcius selama 5 jam menghasilkan 6 kg bahan kering. Pengeringan dengan metode ini berlangsung lebih cepat daripada pengeringan dengan metode sebelumnya. Penjemuran saat cuaca panas sepanjang hari memerlukan waktu 2 hari. Selain itu, warna bahan tampak lebih putih dibandingkan hasil penjemuran. Kegiatan ini juga memberikan dampak positif, dimana mitra dapat memproduksi tepung mocaf dengan kontinyu tanpa tergantung kondisi cuaca” tandas Widi Widayat.
