Semarang, Tim Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Riset Eksakta (PKM-RE) dari Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA) Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) berhasil mengembangkan ChitoGreen, sebuah inovasi bioplastik ramah lingkungan berbahan dasar kitosan dari limbah sisik ikan bandeng (Chanos chanos) dan pati daun kelor (Moringa oleifera). Penelitian ini mengusung judul “Inovasi Bioplastik Kitosan Sisik Ikan Bandeng dan Pati Daun Kelor dengan Ekstraksi Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents sebagai Kemasan Ramah Lingkungan.” Tim ini terdiri dari Berlian Avicenna (Ilmu Lingkungan) sebagai ketua, dengan anggota Wildan Aroffi (Kimia), Rifqi Ardiyansyah (Pendidikan IPA), dan Romadoni (Pendidikan IPA). Kegiatan ini dibimbing oleh Fidia Fibriana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., dosen FMIPA UNNES.

Melalui riset ini, tim ChitoGreen berfokus pada pemanfaatan limbah organik perikanan menjadi bahan bernilai guna tinggi yang dapat menggantikan plastik konvensional. Proses ekstraksi kitosan dilakukan menggunakan metode Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) yang lebih ramah lingkungan dibandingkan pelarut kimia tradisional. Menurut Berlian Avicenna, pemanfaatan limbah ikan bandeng dan daun kelor merupakan langkah konkret mahasiswa UNNES dalam mendukung penerapan ekonomi sirkular dan pengurangan limbah plastik sekali pakai.

“Kami berharap inovasi ini dapat menjadi contoh bahwa bahan alami di sekitar kita dapat diolah menjadi produk berkelanjutan yang bermanfaat bagi lingkungan,” ujar Berlian.

Hasil bioplastik yang dikembangkan memiliki tekstur elastis, transparan kekuningan, dan mudah terurai, dengan potensi penggunaan sebagai kemasan makanan ramah lingkungan. Tim juga melakukan serangkaian uji seperti kuat tarik, biodegradasi, kelarutan, dan aktivitas antimikroba terhadap Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus. Program ini didanai oleh Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi, Riset, dan Teknologi (Kemendikbudristek) melalui skema PKM-RE 2025, dan menjadi bentuk nyata penerapan ilmu pengetahuan mahasiswa FMIPA UNNES dalam mendukung Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), khususnya poin produksi dan konsumsi yang bertanggung jawab.
