Tim Dosen Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) menyelenggarakan pelatihan Inovasi Pembelajaran Sains Berbasis STEM untuk Guru SD, SMP, dan SMA di Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) pada hari Rabu (12/7/2023).

Kegiatan ini merupakan salah satu bagian dari tri darma perguruan tinggi yaitu kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) luar negeri. Tim Pengabdi terdiri dari tiga orang dosen yaitu Dr. Sugianto, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Ani Rusilowati M.Pd., dan Arif Widiyatmoko, Ph.D.

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah agar guru di SIKL memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk berinovasi dalam pembelajaran sains berbasis STEM. Salah satu bentuk reformasi pendidikan yang dapat membantu guru dalam mengatasi permasalahan di abad 21 adalah menggunakan pendekatan science, technology, engineering, dan mathematics (STEM). STEM menjadi suatu pendekatan dalam pembelajaran sains dengan menuntun pola pikir siswa seperti ilmuwan. Melalui pembelajaran sains berbasis STEM, siswa dituntun untuk menjadi pemecah masalah, penemu, innovator, mandiri, berpikir logis, melek teknologi, dan mampu menghubungkan pendidikan STEM dengan dunia kerjanya. Sehingga penting bagi guru untuk mengimplementasikan pembelajaran sains berbasis STEM saat ini.

Kegiatan diawali dengan pembukaan oleh Kepala Sekolah SIKL Ibu Friny Napasti, S.Pd., M.Pd., dilanjutkan dengan pemaparan materi oleh Prof Ani Rusilowati tentang Pembelajaran STEM dan Evaluasinya dilanjutkan oleh Arif Widiyatmoko, Ph.D. tentang praktik inovasi pembelajaran sains berbasis STEM. Percobaan yang dilakukan oleh guru ada 2 yaitu drop egg challenge dan straw bridge. Guru-guru yang terlibat kegiatan ini sangat antusias dan tertarik untuk mencoba inovasi pembelajaran berbasis STEM untuk materi pembelajaran lainnya.
