Manik Maya Mengenang Kilimanjaro, Menatap Elbrus

Tanggal 8 Agustus 2011 nanti bakal menjadi hari bersejarah bagi Manik Maya. Betapa tidak, anggota Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam (Mahapala) Unnes ini akan terbang dari Semarang menuju Elbrus Rusia. Perjalanan itu dilakukan sekaligus untuk menaklukan salah satu gunung tertinggi di dunia tersebut.

“Tanggal 17 Agustus kami target sudah sampai di puncak,” ujarnya.

Perjalanan Manik ke Elbrus akan menjadi pendakian internasional keduanya. Agustus 2009 silam, ia melakukannya ketika bersama dua rekannya mendaki ke puncak Kilimanjaro di Tanzania. Saat itu ia berhasil mengibarkan merah putih di puncak setinggi 5895 meter di atas permukaan laut itu.

Manik mengaku, ia tidak pernah berencana mendaki hingga Kilimanjaro dan Elbrus. Awal bergabung dengan Mahapala Unnes, ia pun tidak terlalu suka naik gunung. Saat itu ia bahkan berencana menekuni panjat dinding, salah satu bidang yang diakuinya paling menantang.

“Tapi karena saat seleksi aku terpilih, akhirnya aku berangkat,” ujar mahasiswa Jurusan Geografi Unnes ini.

Diakui, persiapan mendaki Elbrus tidaklah mudah. Apalagi, pada pendakian kali ini ia akan berperan sebagai pendamping bagi dua juniornya, Makrifah dan Miftahul Ulum. Karena itu, jauh-jauh hari persiapan telah merka dilakukan. Selain mengenjot latihan fisik, ia bersama rekan-rekan Mahapala lain sengaja mengikuti bimbingan teknis dari salah seorang dosen ilmu keolahragaan.

“Tahun ini saya terpilih lagi untuk mendampingi. Sebab, saya pernah mendaki di Kilimanjaro. Dan di antara teman-teman yang pernah ke Kilimanjaro, saya satu-satunya yang belum lulus,” tuturnya seraya terkekeh. Dua rekannya ketika ke Kilimanjaro, Ifan dan Bejo, telah wisudah beberapa waktu lalu.

“Seleksi dilakukan sejak 2010. Dari 14 orang diseleksi, terjaring 6, kemudian dilseleksi lagi yang lolos 2 orang, yaitu Makrifah dan Miftahul Ulum. Kalau saya cuma ndampingi,” lanjutnya.

Selain itu, lanjut Manik, ia ditugaskan mendampingi lantaran pernah mengalmi moundsidness saat mendaki di Kilimanjaro. Ia muntah-muntah dan merasa sesak napas karena tidak bisa menyesuaikan dengan cuaca setempat.

“Karena saya pernah mengalami itu, saya dinilai lebih siap kalau menghadapi kondisi sulit serupa. Tubuh kita kan punya alat rekam untuk menyesuaikan diri,” katanya.

Cuaca ekstrim Elbrus Manik akui harus diwaspadai. Pasalnya, suhu udara di sana bisa mencapai -10 derajat celcius. Karena itu, baik Manik, Makrifah, maupun Ulum lebih giat mempersiapkan diri. Beberapa bulan terakhir mereka bahkan berlatih makan sehari sekali untuk melatih tubuh.

“Kami juga perlu membiasakan diri makan coklat, karena tidak mungkin bawa nasi saat pendakian,” ujarnya.
