Mahasiswa UNNES Kembangkan Hydrogel Penutup Luka Berbasis Bahan Alam untuk Percepatan Penyembuhan Luka Bakar

Tim Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa bidang Riset Eksakta (PKM-RE) Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) berhasil mengembangkan hydrogel wound dressing berbasis biokomposit alginat–kitosan kuaterner dengan tambahan ekstrak propolis. Inovasi ini menjadi langkah maju dalam pengembangan sediaan penutup luka yang berpotensi mempercepat penyembuhan luka bakar derajat II secara alami dan ramah lingkungan.

Tim ini beranggotakan Iqbal Nugroho, Priskila Meliana Hutahaean, Melania Diu, dan Aulya Indah Purwanty, yang merupakan mahasiswa lintas disiplin dari Program Studi Farmasi, Fakultas Kedokteran, serta Program Studi Kimia dan Pendidikan Biologi, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam. Kegiatan ini dibimbing oleh apt. Annisa Aulia Savitri, M.Clin.Pharm., dan memperoleh pendanaan dari Direktorat Pembelajaran dan Kemahasiswaan Kemendikbudristek melalui skema PKM 2025.

Melalui riset ini, mahasiswa UNNES berupaya mengintegrasikan ilmu farmasi, kimia, dan biologi guna menciptakan solusi biomedis berbasis bahan alam yang efektif, aman, dan berkelanjutan. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada 22–28 September 2025 di berbagai laboratorium UNNES dan universitas mitra. Tahapan awal penelitian mencakup uji pembengkakan dan penurunan berat hidrogel di Laboratorium Riset FMIPA UNNES, dilanjutkan dengan uji kekuatan tarik dan persentase elongasi di Laboratorium Teknologi Sediaan Farmasi. Uji ini bertujuan mengetahui kestabilan fisik dan kemampuan hidrogel dalam mempertahankan kelembapan area luka.

Selanjutnya, tim melaksanakan uji aktivitas antibakteri di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) untuk menilai efektivitas hidrogel dalam menghambat pertumbuhan mikroba penyebab infeksi. Hasil awal menunjukkan potensi antibakteri yang kuat dari kombinasi bahan biokomposit dan ekstrak propolis, menandakan formulasi ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai penutup luka, tetapi juga mempercepat proses regenerasi jaringan kulit.

Pada tahap akhir, dilakukan uji in vivo melalui induksi luka bakar derajat II pada hewan coba mencit di Laboratorium Hewan Coba FMIPA UNNES. Dari hasil pengamatan sementara, hidrogel menunjukkan kemampuan fisik dan biologis yang baik dengan indikasi penyembuhan luka lebih cepat dibandingkan kontrol.Pembimbing riset, apt. Annisa Aulia Savitri, M.Clin.Pharm., menyampaikan apresiasi atas kerja keras tim.

“Penelitian ini menjadi bukti nyata kemampuan mahasiswa UNNES dalam berinovasi lintas disiplin. Kami ingin menumbuhkan budaya riset yang aplikatif dengan menggabungkan kekuatan ilmu farmasi, biologi, dan kimia untuk menghasilkan produk biomedis berbasis bahan alam yang bermanfaat bagi masyarakat,” ujarnya.

Melalui semangat kolaboratif dan riset aplikatif ini, tim PKM-RE UNNES berhasil menghadirkan karya inovatif yang sejalan dengan visi UNNES sebagai kampus berwawasan konservasi dan bereputasi internasional. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi langkah awal dalam pengembangan produk biomedis modern yang efektif, biokompatibel, dan berkelanjutan, sekaligus memperkuat kontribusi UNNES dalam riset kesehatan berbasis kekayaan hayati Indonesia.
