Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam Universitas Negeri Semarang (Mahapala UNNES) sukses menggelar Borobudur International Orienteering Festival 2024 (BIOF 2024) di kawasan Balkondes Ngadiharjo, Kecamatan Borobudur, Kabupaten Magelang, Jawa Tengah, Sabtu-Minggu (10-11/8). Ajang orienteering tingkat Internasional ini diikuti 131 atlet dari 3 negara, Indonesia, Timor Leste, dan Perancis. Berbagai atlet nasional juga mengikuti lomba yang memiliki hadiah total Rp. 20 Juta ini.

Afif, ketua Panitia Borobudur International Orienteering Festival 2024 mengungkapkan bahwa selain diselenggarakan untuk para atlet dan penikmat orienteering, Ia mengungkapkan bahwa agenda ini juga memiliki tujuan lain yaitu mengenalkan orienteering kepada masyarakat umum.

BIOF 2024 dibagi menjadi enam kelas yang terdiri dari kelas Men dan Women yakni , M/W 18, M/W 20, dan M/W 21.  Dari beberapa kelompok usia tersebut, para atlet mengandalkan ketepatan dalam bernavigasi dan kecepatan untuk berlari dalam meraih kemenangan.

Dalam sambutannya, Wakil Rektor I Bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswaan UNNES Prof. Dr. Zaenuri, S.E., M.Si., Akt. mengungkapkan rasa bangganya atas diselenggarakan kegiatan yang bertaraf internasional ini.

“Kami mengapresiasi UKM MAHAPALA UNNES yang telah bekerja keras, hingga mampu menyelenggarakan kegiatan ini. Mudah-mudahan, lewat Borobudur International Orienteering Festival 2024 ini akan lahir atlet orienteering yang handal dari UNNES yang mampu bersaing di tingkat nasional maupun internasional,” ungkap Prof Zaenuri.

Selain itu, turut hadir dalam ajang ini perwakilan dari PJ Gubernur Jawa Tengah yang sekaligus menyampaikan apresiasi kepada UNNES yang mampu menyelenggarakan event berskala Internasional. Menurutnya, event orienteering ini diperlukan sebagai sarana atau fasilitas para atlet untuk bertanding dan mempersiapkan kejuaraan selanjutnya. Semakin banyak event, para atlet akan giat berlatih sehingga akan menghasilkan prestasi bagi daerahnya masing-masing.

Ketua UKM MAHAPALA UNNES, Ari mengatakan, terdapat beberapa atlet pemula yang turun dalam perlombaan ini. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa ajang ini dapat melahirkan potensi atlet-atlet orienteering yang diharapkan semakin berkembang kedepannya.

Selain tercatat di kalender Pengurus Pusat Federasi Orienteering Nasional Indonesia (PP FONI), ajang bergengsi ini kedepannya diharapkan dapat masuk pemeringkatan dunia World Rangking Event (WRE) dari Federasi Orienteering Dunia, International Orienteering Federation (IOF).

Diharapkan dengan ajang BIOF 2024 dapat menginspirasi banyak orang untuk terus bersemangat dalam mengeksplorasi alam. Selain itu juga manjadi sarana yang efektif dalam berlatih, baik untuk mengasah keterampilan navigasi, meningkatkan daya tahan fisik dan memajukan para atlet orienteering.
