Dosen Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) mengimplementasikan media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berbasis multimedia di SMP Negeri 16 Kota Semarang. Pengimplementasian media tersebut merupakan bagian dari tahapan penelitian kerja sama antara UNNES dengan Universitas Kasesart Thailand.

Penelitian kerja sama ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sebuah media pembelajaran literasi bahasa Inggris berbasis teknologi yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan literasi kritis pada pembelajaran membaca siswa kelas VII SMP mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris.

Kegiatan pengimplementasian media pembelajaran berjalan lancar yang dilakukan dengan dua sesi dan tetap memperhatikan protokol kesehatan. Kegiatan ini kemudian ditindaklanjuti dengan pengimplementasian media pembelajaran serupa di Lab school Universitas Kasesart Thailand. Data kemudian coba dikomparasikan untuk melihat keefektifan media tersebut dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi kritis siswa kelas VII di Indonesia dan Thailand.

Tim penelitian dari UNNES diketuai oleh Farid Ahmadi S Kom M Kom Ph D dengan anggota Intan Permata Hapsari S Pd M Pd dan Elok Fariha Sari S Pd Si M Pd. Tim penelitian dari Universitas Kasesart Thailand diketuai oleh Suphinya Panyasi Ph D dengan anggota Dr Theerasak Soykeeree dan Leroy Head. Sedangkan tim penelitian dari SMP Negeri 16 Kota Semarang diketuai oleh Purnami Subadiyah S Pd M Pd dengan anggota Nurlestari M Pd dan Krisna Wijayakusuma M Pd.

Diharapkan dari penelitian ini menghasilkan sebuah media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang dapat mendukung peningkatan literasi kritis siswa kelas VII SMP baik di Indonesia maupun Thailand. Salah satu peserta, Radhitia Nur Athaya menyebutkan bahwa media literasi bahasa Inggris berbasis adobe flash CS6 yang dikembangkan sangat membantu siswa dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam membaca karena dilengkapi dengan gambar-gambar. Nurlestari S Pd selaku guru Bahasa Inggris kelas VII di SMP Negeri 16 Semarang juga mendukung pengembangan media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berbasis teknologi.

“Saat ini sudah sepatutnya kita membekali siswa-siswa kita dengan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris dan penguasaan teknologi sebagai bekal dalam menghadapi persaingan global, sehingga siswa kita ke depan tidak jauh tertinggal”, pungkasnya.
