Inovasi Pembelajaran BIPA, Dosen UNNES Bawa Sudamanda ke Amerika

Bahasa Indonesia semakin mendapatkan pengakuan di tingkat global. Saat ini, bahasa Indonesia telah ditetapkan sebagai salah satu bahasa resmi Konferensi Umum UNESCO. Di tengah peningkatan status bahasa Indonesia secara Internasional, berbagai inovasi untuk memperkenalkan bahasa Indonesia bagi penutur asing (BIPA) terus dikembangkan. Salah satunya dilakukan oleh Wati Istanti, dosen Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) yang selama ini aktif dalam mengenalkan bahasa Indonesia di luar negeri.

Wati kembali bertolak ke Benua Amerika pada 14 hingga 21 Oktober 2024 untuk mengajarkan BIPA di Yale University dan melakukan observasi kelas bahasa Indonesia di Harvard University. Dosen Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra Indonesia, dan Daerah ini menggunakan pendekatan inovatif dalam pengajaran BIPA dengan menggunakan permainan tradisional Engklek/ Sudamanda yang diintegrasikan dengan teknologi Real-time Multiplayer Virtual Reality.

Melalui Sudamanda, Wati tidak hanya mengajarkan bahasa Indonesia tetapi juga memperkenalkan kearifan budaya lokal kepada mahasiswa Amerika. Inovasi ini merupakan bagian dari penelitiannya yang berjudul ” Melintasi Jembatan Budaya: Pemanfaatan Aplikasi Permainan Tradisional Sudamanda dalam Pembelajaran BIPA di Amerika Serikat”

Selama di Yale dan Harvard, antusias para mahasiswa tinggi untuk mempelajari bahasa dan budaya Indonesia. Interaksi yang terjalin melalui permainan tradisional ini tidak hanya memperdalam pemahaman mereka mengenai bahasa Indonesia, tetapi juga nilai-nilai budaya Indonesia yang ada di dalamnya.

Sebagai Ketua Umum Asosiasi Dosen Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia (ADOBSI), Wati berharap inovasi ini dapat menginspirasi lebih banyak pengajar dan peneliti untuk menggabungkan pengajaran bahasa Indonesia dengan disiplin ilmu lain melalui bidang pengajaran, penelitian, dan pengabdian untuk dikenalkan ke seluruh mahasiswa internasional.

Melelui inovasi yang dilakukan ini, diharapkan bahasa Indonesia akan semakin dipelajari dan membuka peluang lebih besar menjadi bahasa Internasional yang dikenal dan digunakan di berbagai belahan dunia.
