Ikuti YSEALI 2023, Mahasiswa UNNES Pelajari Isu Lingkungan di Amerika

Mahasiswa Ilmu Lingkungan UNNES yang juga penerima Program Beasiswa KNB (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang) Kemendikbudristek, Josue Willian Alwyn, terpilih menjadi salah satu peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan internasional bergengsi Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellowship 2023.

YSEALI adalah program pertukaran akademik intensif jangka pendek (5 minggu) yang bertujuan untuk memberikan kesempatan pada 21 pemimpin muda dari ASEAN + Timor-Leste tentang pemahaman yang lebih tentang Amerika Serikat dalam mengatasi bidang tertentu.

Pada kesempatan tersebut, topik yang dibahas berkaitan dengan lingkungan, seperti civic engagement, environment issues and natural resources management, dan social entrepreneurship and economic development.

Selain mempelajari isu-isu spesisifk tersebut, para peserta juga difasilitasi dalam menigkatkan keterampilan kepemimpinannya dan mengenalkan budaya Amerika Serikat. Program tersebut didanai oleh U.S Department of State.

Fellowship in menggunakan teknik pembelajaran berbasis pengalaman untuk mengekspos para peserta pada tema-tema terkini di lapangan, termasuk perubahan iklim, pembangunan berkelanjutan, praktik pertanian, ketahanan pangan, ekowisata, Keadilan Lingkungan, Keadaan Darurat Lingkungan, pembangkit energi terbarukan, serta pengelolaan dan pengolahan air.

Para Peserta juga bertemu dengan para pemimpin masyarakat dan perwakilan organisasi nirlaba. Para delegasi juga mengetahui kebijakan dan peraturan pemerintah AS dalam aspek bidang isu lingkungan. Terakhir, Fellowship ini mengeksplorasi isu-isu lingkungan dalam konteks masyarakat global dan membuat perbandingan antara Amerika Serikat dan negara asal para peserta.

“Saya mengikuti program ini yang dilaksanakan di East-West Center, University of Hawai’i, University of California Berkeley dengan pengalaman kuliah dengan professor, panel, diskusi seminar, debat, dan kunjungan lapangan secara langsung,” kaya Josue.

Selain mengikuti rangkaian kegiatan di atas, ia juga mengunjungi sejumlah destinasi seperti Ka iwi coast, Waste Management in California, He’ia Fishpond, Loi Kanewai farm and water Irrigation, dan HPower Covanta Incinerator. Pada ahkir program para delegasi menerima sertifikat kelulusan (graduation day) di Washington, DC.
