Guru Bahasa Inggris Dituntut Ajarkan Tata Bahasa Secara Gamblang

Semarang – Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Semarang bekerjasama dengan Asosiasi Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN) menyelenggarakan seminar bertema “Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dalam Tantangan Kurikulum”. Seminar diselengarakan beberapa waktu lalu di Gedung Dekanat, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Semarang ini merupakan kegiatan yang sinergis antara lembaga Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris Unnes dan TEFLIN, dalam hal ini TEFLIN wilayah Jawa Tengah, dalam rangka menyediakan forum ilmiah di bidang pengajaran Bahasa Inggris.

Seminar Nasional ini dihadiri oleh para guru, dosen, dan pengajar di berbagai lembaga pendidikan bahasa Inggris serta mahasiswa dan peminat di bidang bahasa. Terdapat 2 pembicara kunci yang merupakan pakar pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, yakni Dra. Helena I.R. Agustien, M.A., Ph.D. dari Universitas Negeri Semarang dan Prof. Dr. Joko Nurkamto, M.Pd. dari Universitas Sebelas Maret, yang sekaligus juga Presiden TEFLIN. Selain itu, terdapat pula 42 pemakalah pada sesi parallel yang saling bertukar gagasan, pengetahuan, dan pengalaman dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya dalam rangka menghadapi tantangan kurikulum.

Dalam presentasinya, Dra. Helena I.R. Agustien, M.A., Ph.D. mengingatkan para peserta seminar, khususnya para pengajar Bahasa Inggris akan pentingnya pengajaran Tata Bahasa Bahasa Inggris secara jelas. “Walaupun kita menggunakan pendekatan Communicative Language Teaching, kita harus mengajarkan tata bahasa Bahasa Inggris secara explicit kepada anak didik kita. Kenapa? Karena di sini, kita tidak mendapatkan cukup paparan atau contoh nyata dalam penggunaan bahasa Inggris, terlebih yang menggunakan tata bahasa yang benar,” imbau beliau.

Melengkapi paparan ibu Helena, Prof. Dr. Joko Nurkamto, M.Pd. mengajak para peserta seminar untuk menggunakan pendekatan yang tepat dalam mengajar. Beliau mengatakan, “Seorang pengajar harus mengetahui karakteristik anak didiknya. Gunakan cara mengajar yang tepat, sesuai dengan usia dan kemampuan mereka. Jangan dipaksakan menggunakan hanya satu pendekatan, guru hendaknya kreatif dalam menggabungkan beberapa pendekatan ketika mengajar.”
