Students of the Unnes Fashion Education Study Program, Nur Laili Lutfiana and Annisa Sholikhatul Fatih received awards as 1st Runner Up and Favorite Winner in the JMDC (Central Modest Design Competition) 2023 event. Meanwhile, students of the Fashion Design Education Study Program Unnes Risfani and students of the Welfare Education Study Program The Rochmatun Niswah family made it into the Top 8 at the JMDC 2023 event.

JMDC (Central Java Modest Design Competition) is a competition to produce talented young designers in Central Java initiated by the Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC) in collaboration with Bank Indonesia. August 11 2023 is the night of the peak of the JMDC 2023 Top 8 Grand Final which is part of the Semarang Fashion Trend event at BBPVP Semarang. On the night of the Grand Final, UNNES won 2 awards as 1st Runner Up and Favorite Winner which were handed over directly by Mrs. Atiqoh Ganjar Pranowo, Mr. Gunawan Wicaksono as Deputy Representative of Bank Indonesia, and Mrs. Ina Priyono as Chair of the IFC Semarang Chapter. Also the other jury members are Mrs. Lisa Firtria from IFC Nasional and David Yan from IFC Semarang.

The JMDC Fashion Competition was held by taking 2 categories, namely category A with ages 18-25 years and category B for Islamic boarding school-based vocational students who live in Central Java. In this fashion competition activity, the source of design ideas must come from cultural & natural wealth in Central Java and use at least 50% of Central Javanese wastra such as batik, striated, ecoprint and embroidery.

“My work is titled Brina, which means protector and woman. The work was inspired by the beauty of the traditional juwiring umbrella craft, which is a painted umbrella typical of Juwiring Village, Kendal, l Central Java,” said Nur Laili Lutfiana as 1st Runner Up JMDC 2023.

The JMDC competition process went through a very strict selection process. At the beginning of July, the top 15 JMDC Finalists were selected and had the opportunity to make a presentation to the jury to be selected as the Top 8 Finalists. Each participant was asked to realize 2 works of fashion design that had been designed and curated by the jury.

I am grateful for being able to bring the name of the Unnes Fashion Design Study Program and the City of Jepara to be known more widely. Thanks also to all the Unnes Fashion Design Education Lecturers who have provided valuable knowledge. very useful so that I can be at this point. I am also very grateful to my parents and colleagues who never get tired of supporting me ” . Nur Laili said.

Annisa Sholikhatul as the winner of Favorite Winner also expressed her gratitude for the votes given via Like on IG Semarang Fashion Trend, so that she was chosen as the most favorite work at the JMDC 2023 event. Roudlotus Sholikhah, S.Pd., M.Pd. as the supervising lecturer would like to express his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the students of the Fashion Design Education Study Program and the Unnes PKK Study Program who have worked hard so that they reached the JMDC 2023 Final stage and won 2 awards, namely 1st Runner Up and Favorite Winner. He also congratulated Unnes on student achievements that made Unnes very proud. We hope that it will inspire other students to continue to be passionate and achieve.
