Mahasiswa Arsitektur UNNES angkatan 2012, Rofian Miftakhul Akhya dibawah bimbingan Dimas Wicaksono, S.T., M.Eng mengikuti Design Challenge Cipta Karya 2016 di Jawa Timur, dengan tema Lomba Desain Ruang Terbuka Hijau di Bundaran Waru sebagai Gerbang Kota Surabaya, yang diselenggarakan oleh Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Cipta Karya dan Tata Ruang Provinsi Jawa Timur bersama dengan Ikatan Arsitek Lansekap Indonesia Daerah Jawa Timur. Lomba ini diikuti oleh sekitar 85 peserta dari beberapa perguruan tinggi negeri dan swasta di Indonesia, dan diseleksi oleh juri yang berlatar belakang dari akademisi dan praktisi yaitu :

Dari sekian peserta yang mendaftar dan mengirimkan karya, dipilih 10 karya terbaik menjadi 10 nominator untuk di presentasikan di babak final. Untuk persiapan babak final, kesepuluh peserta mengikuti acara Technical Meeting di ruang meeting lt. 2 UPT Informasi Teknologi Bangunan Perumahan Dan Permukiman Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Cipta Karya Dan Tata Ruang Provinsi Jawa Timur. Setiap peserta di wajibkan untuk membuat maket presentasi skala 1:500 yang akan digunakan untuk pameran dan presentasi final.

Konsep yang ditawarkan oleh peserta adalah gerbang kota yang diwujudkan di ruang terbuka hijau Bundaran Waru diharapkan dapat menjadi penanda akses masuk menuju Kota Surabaya. Melalui pendekatan nilai historis dan konstekstual kota surabaya sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas visual lingkungan sekitarnya dan memunculkan identitas Kota Surabaya.

 

Hasil dari total poin penjurian, maka ditetapkan pemenang yaitu juara 1 dari Universitas Indonesia, juara 2 dari Universitas Parahyangan, juara 3 Universitas Brawijaya, juara favorit dari Universitas Indonesia. Dari total poin hasil penjurian urutan satu sampai kesepuluh, Universitas Negeri Semarang meraih juara harapan 1.
