Boyolali, Minggu, 29 Maret 2015, merupakan hari yang paling bersejarah bagi Tim Rajawali Aeromodelling Club (RAC) CRC Teknik Mesin UNNES, hari itu debut pertama mengikuti kejuaraan Aeromodelling yang dinaungi oleh Federasi Aerosoprt Indonesia (FASI), kelas yang dipertandingkan pada Free Flight Aeromodelling FASI Boyolali kali ini adalah Kelas OHLG, Tim Aeromodelling yang turut serta pada perlombaan kali ini dari Tim Rajawali Aeromodelling Club (RAC) CRC Teknik Mesin UNNES, HAAC IST AKPRIND Yogyakrta, Tim FASI Provinsi Kalimantan Barat, Tim FASI Tasikmalaya Jawa Barat, Tim FASI Kota Yogyakarta, Tim FASI Kota Semarang, Tim FASI Boyolali, Tim TNI AU, Tim FASI Cirebon, dan masyarakat umum pada kelas terbuka. Para Aeromodeller yang turut serta dari Tim Rajawali diantaranya Desi Riana Sari dari Pendidikan Teknik Mesin (Kelas wanita), Ana Wilda Widiantoro dari Pendidikan Teknik Mesin dan Eko Edi Wibowo dari Pendidikan Teknik Mesin (Kelas Pria), dengan Tim Official Fahmi Yuda Bachtiar (PTM), Rais Al Hakim (TM), Ahmad Reza (PTM) dan Setyo Hartadi (TM) selaku Koordinator Creativity and Research Club (CRC) Teknik  Mesin, dengan Pembimbing Rizqi Fitri Naryanto, ST., M.Eng.

Aeromodelling merupakan penggabungan antara olahraga dan teknologi, para “habibie muda“ ini harus cermat dalam memperhitungkan efek lift daya angkat pesawat dengan beban pesawat, panjang rentang sayap, dan kemiringan sayap, sudut serang pada sayap, serta besarnya efek turbulensi apabila pesawat diterbangkan, dan juga kemampuan untuk membaca arah angin, hal ini sama persis dengan perancangan pesawat sesungguhnya dan persiapan saat pesawat sesungguhnya akan terbang. Meski terlihat sederhana namun perlu ketelitian tinggi untuk merancang sebuah pesawat aeromodelling, demikian ungkap Rizqi Fitri Naryanto, ST., M.Eng selaku pembimbing Tim Rajawali.

Bahkan dunia militer di negara maju sekarang melakukan banyak penelitian pesawat tanpa awak, tak terkecuali TNI Angkatan Udara juga telah turut serta mengembangkan pesawat tanpa awak tersebut. Selain pesawat tanpa awak dapat melakukan intercept/ menyusup ke daerah pertahanan musuh karena dimensinya yang kecil, dan apabila tertangkap oleh musuh tidak akan menyebabkan korban jiwa pada pihak pengendali pesawat tanpa awak tersebut. Aeromodelling inilah merupakan cikal bakal pengembangan pesawat tanpa awak tersebut.

Lomba selanjutnya yang telah dijadwalkan Federasi Aerosport Indonesia (FASI) yaitu lomba Aeromodelling Terbuka di Kebumen yang sebelumnya diawali dengan pelatihan penjurian. Aeromodelling  merupakan salah satu cabang olahraga yang diperlombakan dalam Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) dan masuk dalam Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) untuk tingkat internasional. Bahkan untuk research pada tataran perguruan tinggi dapat terlibat dalam Kontes Robot Terbang Indonesia (KRTI) yang diselenggarakan oleh DIKTI. Harapan kami dukungan civitas academika agar Tim Rajawali semakin lebar merentangkan sayapnya dapat terealisasi.(RFN)
