Psychology students at Semarang State University had the opportunity to broaden their horizons through a public lecture webinar entitled “Beyond The Classroom: Effective Strategies for Transferring Training to the Workplace.” This event was organized to facilitate broader learning for students in the Human Resource Development (HRD) course.

The webinar featured Agung Alamsyah, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the speaker, who shared insights on human resource development. Meanwhile, one of the Psychology students from UNNES, Azka Fauziah, served as the moderator, helping to guide the proceedings of the event. The activity was conducted online via the Zoom platform on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM WIB. Psychology students also participated as attendees in the webinar, actively engaging in both the presentation of materials and discussions.

Agung Alamsyah emphasized in his presentation that the success of knowledge transfer does not solely depend on the quality of training. Participants must also have the ability to apply the knowledge, supported by the work environment and organization. Additionally, he stressed the importance of personal responsibility, self-management, and the role of the organization in creating a supportive work environment.

“Effective training design includes clear objectives, active participant engagement, simulations and practical exercises, as well as post-training follow-up,” Agung noted during his presentation.

Agung introduced three key theories in training transfer: the identical elements theory, which emphasizes contextual similarity; the generalization theory, which emphasizes general principles; and the cognitive theory, which emphasizes the participant’s information processing.

A participant shared an insightful impression during the lecture: “It was very beneficial. This lecture provided us, as psychology students, with insights into the importance of training transfer and could serve as a foundation for the future—who knows, maybe someone wants to become a trainer. Personally, I also gained a better understanding that training is not just about completing a program, but about how the knowledge gained can be applied in real life. Overall, it was great and very beneficial!” said Tiara Salsabilla.

The webinar is expected to equip students with a strategic understanding of transfer of training in the workplace, as well as serve as an initial preparation for entering the professional world with adaptability and competence.
