SEMARANG – The Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) of Semarang State University (UNNES) officially kicked off the 2026 Education Month series with the exciting news of the construction of an eight-story lecture building, scheduled for groundbreaking in June 2026.
This strategic project, targeted for completion by December 2026, was announced by the UNNES Rector during an opening ceremony at the FIPP field on Tuesday (June 2, 2026), which featured the release of turtle doves and an SDGs-themed parade.

The celebration, attended by the entire FIPP academic community, marked a crucial moment for the faculty to strengthen its position as a major contributor to university achievements at the national level. The presence of UNNES Rector, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Sc., in person amidst his busy schedule carrying out national mandates, strongly signaled that infrastructure transformation at FIPP is a top priority for the university in supporting the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Construction of the 8-Story FIPP UNNES Lecture Building Begins

The completion of the new facility’s construction comes after a long wait. In his remarks, the UNNES Rector specifically summoned the construction team to provide technical clarification to ensure transparency for the entire academic community. Untoro, representing the implementing team, confirmed that the administrative stages had been completed.
“The FIPP building is currently in the tender process and has been completed, and the groundbreaking ceremony will take place this June,” Untoro stated before all participants in the opening ceremony.
He also expressed his hope that the physical structure of the eight-story building would soon be realized on the FIPP campus.
In response to this confirmation, the UNNES Rector also committed to an ambitious yet measurable timeline. “We pray that the 8-story FIPP building will be completed by December 2026,” said Prof. Martono.
The Dean of FIPP, Prof. Dr. Edy Purwanto, M.Si., described the Rector’s presence as a “Hilal,” or a good omen for the future of the faculty’s development.
According to Prof. Edy stated that the Rector’s physical presence was particularly special considering his position as Deputy Chair of the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB) and Treasurer of the Indonesian National Student Association (MRPTNI), which often requires him to attend to state affairs in Jakarta.
This close relationship is seen as a direct blessing for the acceleration of development at FIPP.

FIPP’s Contribution to Maintaining UNNES’s Reputation at 7th Place Nationally
This magnificent infrastructure development plan is a token of appreciation for FIPP’s consistent achievements over the past five years. This faculty has proven to be a “performance engine” for UNNES, particularly through the National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas).
Prof. Edy Purwanto outlined the stellar track record of FIPP students, who consistently send finalists to Pimnas almost every year. “In 2021, UNNES students won one gold and one bronze. In 2022, one bronze,” he explained.
The culmination will occur in 2025, when winning two silver medals from FIPP will be key to UNNES’s success in reaching the seventh place nationally in Indonesia.
The eight-story building is expected to support student research productivity and innovation. “God willing, with the construction of the eight-story FIPP lecture building, achievements will continue to increase,” added Prof. Edy.
This aligns with the university’s efforts to continue competing among the elite national universities.

Education Month 2026: Transforming IKU Performance and Student Achievement
In addition to the announcement of the building’s construction, the opening of Education Month 2026 served as a platform to launch various strategic performance-oriented programs. With the theme “Smart with Integrity” and the spirit of “Moving and Impacting,” FIPP has designed a comprehensive agenda ranging from the international level to strengthening spiritual character.
The UNNES Rector emphasized that all activities during Education Month must have a clear objective. “We hope that FIPP will produce better performance, superior performance for the institution, the nation, and the state,” said Prof. Martono.
To achieve this, FIPP has prepared a number of international academic activities, including an International Lecture and two prestigious conferences: Semarang Early Childhood Research and Education Talks (SECRET) and the International Seminar on Education and Human Technology (ISEHT).

The opening ceremony was also marked by a parade of study program representatives showcasing their creativity on the SDGs theme, followed by a parade around campus and musical entertainment. Several booths from study programs and faculty student executive boards (BEM) also showcased innovative products as a tangible demonstration of student creativity.
While focused on intellectual and international achievement, FIPP maintains a spiritual balance. This year’s Education Month agenda also includes Quran recitation activities, gatherings, faculty introductions, and arts and sports events to enhance the well-being of all faculty members. With a combination of rapidly developing modern infrastructure and a measurable work program, FIPP UNNES is poised to move toward a more impactful educational future.
