Following up on the research cooperation scheme with QS100 higher education institutions, three lecturers from the Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) of UNNES visited Monash University in Clayton, Victoria, Australia. The visit took place on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Learning and Teaching Building. The team consisted of Prof. Dr. Edy Purwanto, M.Si., from the Psychology program, Ali Formen, Ph.D., from the Early Childhood Education Teacher Training program (PGPAUD), and Abdul Kholiq, M.Pd., from the Guidance and Counseling program. Their research partner at Monash University was Assoc. Prof. Kelly-Ann Allen, Ph.D. from the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology.

The research was titled “Investigating the Determinants and Measurement of Sense of Belonging to Promote University-Associated Psychological Well-Being in an Indonesian Context”. The study’s background was the prevalence of cases in Semarang and Indonesia indicating a lack of psychological well-being among students. This issue is related to the “sense of belonging,” which was then explored further in the collaborative research with the expert from Monash.

While in Australia, Prof. Dr. Edy Purwanto, M.Si., presented the progress of the research titled “The Validation of University Belonging Questionnaire in Indonesia,” which was attended by lecturers and doctoral students at Monash University. During the forum, several suggestions were obtained for future research improvements, including the addition of factor analysis on the instruments used and the consideration of belonging contexts beyond the campus. In addition to discussing the research, the three FIPP UNNES lecturers also met with the partnership team at Monash University to explore broader cooperation opportunities.
