Dorong Percepatan Tesis, Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Gelar FGD dan Research Gallery Walk

Program Studi Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) menyelenggarakan kegiatan Focus Group Discussion (FGD) dan Research Gallery Walk, Jumat (13/06/2025), di Gedung B11 FBS UNNES. Acara diselenggarakan oleh program studi untuk memberikan fasilitas dan mendorong mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tesisnya.

Kegiatan dibuka dengan Research Gallery Walk yang menghadirkan para dosen untuk memberikan masukan terhadap rancangan penelitian mahasiswa. Setelah itu, kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan kelas paralel dan ditutup dengan sesi FGD bersama panelis dari kalangan dosen.

Research Gallery Walk adalah sebuah metode presentasi dan diskusi hasil penelitian yang dikemas seperti pameran. Dalam kegiatan ini, para mahasiswa menampilkan hasil penelitian mereka dalam bentuk poster, infografik, atau media visual lainnya yang dipajang di suatu ruangan seperti galeri. Peserta lain akan berjalan dari satu “galeri” ke galeri lainnya untuk melihat, membaca, dan berdiskusi langsung dengan penelitinya.

Kegiatan ini turut mendukung SDGs poin keempat (Sustainable Development Goal 4) yang berfokus pada pendidikan berkualitas dan inklusif, yang juga mencakup upaya untuk mendukung percepatan kelulusan mahasiswa melalui keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam diskusi publik dan konferensi ilmiah. Kegiatan ini memungkinkan mahasiswa untuk mengasah kemampuan berpikir kritis, memperdalam pemahaman akademik, serta mendapatkan masukan konstruktif dari berbagai pihak.

Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh mahasiswa Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang tengah fokus menyelesaikan tesis. Salah satunya, Dian Sari Marchia.

“Saya jadi lebih termotivasi untuk menyelesaikan tesis lebih cepat karena banyak mendapatkan insight dan perspektif baru dari dosen,” ujarnya.

Salah satu penelitian menarik ditampilkan oleh Sabiq Ariqun Nabih berjudul Bridging the Belief-Practice Gap: Indonesian EFL Teacher’s Self-Efficacy and Preparedness in Teaching Multimodal Literacy. Penelitian ini mengkaji upaya menjembatani kesenjangan antara keyakinan guru dan praktik di lapangan dalam pengajaran literasi multimodal. Meski sempat menghadapi kendala dalam pencarian sampel, penelitian ini berhasil diselesaikan dalam waktu dua bulan.

Salah satu panelis, Dr Novia Trisanti, menyampaikan bahwa program studi sangat mendukung percepatan studi mahasiswa melalui forum-forum akademik semacam ini.

“Dengan adanya FGD, mahasiswa bisa saling bertukar ide, membuka wawasan baru, dan menemukan arah yang lebih jelas dalam penelitiannya,” ujar dosen Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FBS UNNES ini.

Dekan FBS UNNES, Prof Dr Tommi Yuniawan, menekankan bahwa kegiatan ini tidak hanya mempercepat proses penyusunan tesis mahasiswa, tetapi juga turut mendukung peningkatan mutu dan akreditasi program studi.
