Rektor Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum membuka kegiatan Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PKKMB) pada Rabu (18/8) secara virtual.

Di hadapan 10.209 mahasiswa baru, Profesor Bidang Sosiolinguistik itu menekankan pentingnya dua karakter pokok mahasiswa yang hebat.

“Di Universitas Negeri Semarang ada dua karakter pokok mahasiswa yang hebat yaitu berkarakter dan berprestasi,” terangnya.

Berkarakter, imbuh Rektor, berarti memiliki sikap dan perilaku terpuji sesuai nilai-nilai yang berlaku di lingkungan kampus, di masyarakat, dan di Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia ini. Jadilah anak-anak muda yang memiliki karakter unggul karena itu merupakan jalan meraih kemuliaan. Bukan hanya kemuliaan bagi adik-adik sendiri, tetapi juga kemuliaan bagi keluarga, bangsa, dan negara.

“Sementara berprestasi berarti memiliki pengetahuan, sikap, keterampilan, dan kompetensi yang unggul sesuai tantangan zaman. Pada era disrupsi ini, Saudara semua harus memiliki keunggulan personal agar dapat bersanding dan bersaing dengan mahasiswa lain di seluruh dunia. Dan keunggulan itu dapat ditumbuhkan melalui proses belajar di kampus ini,” jelasnya.

Tahun ini, UNNES menerima mahasiswa baru sebanyak 10.209 mahasiswa, baik dari dalam maupun luar negeri, yang terdiri dari 9.553 mahasiswa program sarjana dan diploma serta 656 mahasiswa program pascasarjana.

Dari mahasiswa baru program sarjana, 1.831 diantaranya memperoleh pembiayaan melalui program Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-Kuliah) dan 27 mahasiwa baru memperoleh pembiayaan melalui Program Afirmasi Pendidikan Tinggi (ADIK) dan Afirmasi Pendidikan Menengah (ADEM).

Mendorong pengembangan personal mahasiswa, Prof Fathur menjelaskan, UNNES telah menerapkan kebijakan Merdeka Belajar: Kampus Merdeka guna mendorong mahasiswa UNNES untuk  bisa mengembangkan potensi terbaiknya dengan leluasa.

“Ada delapan skema kegiatan belajar dalam Program MBKM ini bagi pengembangan potensi adik-adik, mulai dari pertukaran pelajar dalam dan luar negeri; magang/praktik kerja nasional dan internasional; asistensi mengajar di satuan pendidikan; penelitian/riset; proyek kemanusiaan; kegiatan wirausaha; studi/proyek independen; hingga upaya membangun desa/kuliah kerja nyata tematik,” ungkap Rektor.

Tak hanya itu, UNNES juga telah bekerja sama dengan perguruan tinggi lain, dengan perusahaan swasta, sekolah, dan lembaga pendidikan baik di dalam dan luar negeri untuk melaksanakan program tersebut.

Pada 9 Agustus lalu misalnya, UNNES telah mengirimkan lima mahasiswa ke lima perguruan tinggi mitra antara lain ke University of Waterloo (Kanada), University of Sussex (Inggris), RUDN University (Rusia), University of California, Davis (Amerika Serikar) dan Varna University of Management (Bulgaria).

Bagi UNNES, komitmen untuk berprestasi dan berkarakter adalah suatu keharusan. UNNES mendukung dan terbuka terhadap berbagai kesempatan dalam kerangka pengembangan potensi terbaik bagi mahasiswa.
