Bersama warga dan karang taruna, Tim KKN UNNES mengolah sampah organik menjadi pupuk kompos dengan menggunakan komposter rakitan sendiri, Minggu (28/10).
Isu sampah merupakan permasalahan bersama yang dihadapi oleh seluruh masyarakat dunia. Dalam sehari, produksi sampah setiap orang mencapai 800 gram setiap harinya. Tidak heran banyak tempat sampah yang meluap. Sekalipun sampah dibuang ke tempatnya, suatu saat tempat penampungan sampah akhir pun akan penuh. Produksi sampah yang sangat cepat ini menunjukkan pentingnya pengelolaan sampah sebelum kemu ian dibuang ke tempat
pembuangan akhir (TPA).

Dengan demikian, sampah yang masuk ke TPA akan semakin berkurang dan membuat masa berlakunya menjadi lebih lama. Kasus ini juga dialami oleh warga di Kampung Jetis RW IX Kelurahan Gunungpati Kota Semarang. Hal ini menginspirasi Tim KKN Alternatif IIB di Kelurahan Gunungpati untuk mengangkat isu sampah sebagai program utama.

Terobosan yang diusung oleh Tim KKN UNNES adalah dengan menggugah kesadaran warga untuk memilah sampah organik dan anorganik dari rumah untuk disalurkan ke tim pengelolaan sampah. Kemudian, sampah anorganik akan diolah di bank sampah, sedangkan sampah organik akan dijadikan pupuk cair.

Proses ini tentunya tetap akan menghasilkan sampah residu, yaitu sampah yang sudah tidak bisa diolah kembali, sehingga harus dibuang ke TPA. Dengan begitu, sampah yang dikumpulkan di TPA tidak akan sebanyak sebelumnya.

Tahapan yang dilaksanakan oleh Tim KKN UNNES diawali dengan mengumpulkan stakeholder dari seluruh wilayah RW 9. Melalui forum perkumpulan ini, mahasiswa KKN bersama perwakilan warga merumuskan permasalahan sampah dan membentuk Tim Pengelolaan Sampah yang kemudian
dinamai “Jetis Asri”.

Tahap selanjutnya yang dilaksanakan adalah mengedukasi seluruh anggota “Jetis Asri” dengan mengadakan Workshop dan Pelatihan Pengelolaan Sampah. Dalam forum ini, mahasiswa memaparkan teknis bank sampah beserta teknik pengomposan yang disarankan untuk dilaksanakan oleh anggota “Jetis Asri”. Selain memaparkan teknik pelaksanaan, Tim KKN mengedukasi Tim “Jetis Asri” untuk dapat melaksanakan sosialisasi dan menarik minat seluruh elemen
masyarakat untuk berpartisipasi dalam memilah sampah dari rumah.

Riki Edo Saputro selaku koordinator mahasiswa KKN Alternatif IIB menyampaikan, dengan adanya program pengelolaan sampah ini diharapkan seluruh warga berkenan untuk berpartisipasi aktif, sehingga tercapai Kampung Jetis nan bersih dan memiliki penghasilan yang berasal dari pengelolaan sampah mereka sendiri.

Selain itu kampung jetis juga diharapkan mampu menjadi kampong percontohan bagi 2 kampung lainnya di RW 9.

Dengan terbentuknya Tim Pengelolaan Sampah “Jetis Asri” ini, Tim KKN UNNES berharap, pengelolaan sampah di Kampung Jetis dapat dilaksanakan secara berkesinambungan, khususnya ketika mahasiswa KKN tidak lagi bisa mendampingi rakat. Tujuan utama diadakannya program ini adalah supaya masyarakat di Kampung Jetis mampu menjadi masyarakat yang mandiri dalam pengelolaan sampah, serta mampu menjadi kampung percontohan yang bersih dan asri lingkungannya.
