4 Mahasiswa Unnes ke Harvard University

Sebanyak empat mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni (FBS) Universitas Negeri Semarang berkunjung ke Harvard University. Mereka bertolak dari universitas konservasi, Selasa (14/2) siang.

Keempat mahasiswa itu adalah Diana Purwaningrum, Mustika Aji, Thohiryah, dan Wuri Kusuma. Kesemuanya merupakan mahasiswa semester VIII. โ€œKami akan mengikuti serangkaian kegiatan Harvard National Model of United Nation (HNMUN) 2012,โ€ kata Diana.

Dia mengungkapkan, HNMUN merupakan kompetisi Model United Nations atau Simulasi Persidangan Perserikatan Bangsa-bangsa (PBB) yang diselenggarakan oleh Harvard University, dengan mengikutsertakan lebih dari 3.000 delegasi dari seluruh dunia. Empat mahasiswa Unnes akan mewakili negara kepulauan Saint Lucia, sebuah negara kepulauan di Laut Karibia bagian timur yang berbatasan dengan Samudera Atlantik.

โ€œDalam kegiatan ini, peserta berperan sebagai delegasi PBB yang mewakili negara tertentu. Kegiatan tersebut akan dilaksanakan 16-19 Februari ย mendatang di Boston Park Plaza, Boston Amerika Serikat,โ€ papar ketua delegasi itu.

Selain Unnes, akan bertandang pula universitas lain dari dalam negeri yakni Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, dan Universitas Parahyangan. Para delegasi akan membaur bersama mahasiswa lain dari berbagai universitas terbaik di dunia, seperti Oxford University, Cambridge, Yale, MIT, dan NUS, dan lainnya. Kegiatan yang diikuti delegasi dari 37 negara itu merupakan ke-57.

Pembantu Rektor Bidang Kemahasiswaan Unnes Prof Dr Masrukhi mengungkapkan, tiap tahun HNMUN menghasilkan solusi yang berani dan kreatif untuk mengatasi beberapa isu global. โ€œSebagai delegasi yang terlibat dalam diskusi dan diplomasi, keterampilan mereka dalam meneliti, menulis, negosiasi, dan berbicara di depan umum akan diuji,โ€ tandasnya.

โ€œSelain itu kegiatan yang juga beragendakan pertukaran budaya antardelegasi ini saya harap dapat memperkuat hubungan positif antarbangsa, terlebih membawa gaung universitas konservasi ke khalayak Internasional,โ€ harapnya.
