Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has issued two important policies aimed at fostering health, cleanliness, and comfort across campus: the Clean Kitchen Policy and the Healthy Canteen Policy. Both initiatives are part of UNNES’s commitment to supporting the well-being of its academic community and strengthening its vision as a Conservation University.
Clean Kitchen for a Comfortable Working Environment
Through Circular Letter No. B/28393/UN37/RT.02/2024, all university units are required to provide Clean Kitchen facilities for lecturers, staff, and students. The regulation highlights three main rules:
- Users must maintain cleanliness after using the kitchen.
- Bringing food that may cause unpleasant odors is prohibited.
- The use of the kitchen is limited to break times to maintain order
This policy is expected to create a healthier and more comfortable environment for both academic and non-academic activities.
Healthy Canteen to Support Nutritious Eating
In addition, through Circular Letter No. B/28400/UN37/RT.02/2024, UNNES mandates all campus canteens to implement the Healthy Canteen Program. The guidelines emphasize:
- Providing healthy, nutritious, and balanced meal options, including vegetarian menus.
- Using fresh, high-quality ingredients with hygienic preparation.
- Reducing single-use plastics.
- Maintaining proper cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Prioritizing halal food, with encouragement for each canteen to obtain halal certification
Strengthening UNNES’s Health and Sustainability Commitment
Vice Rector for Planning, General Affairs, Human Resources, and Finance, Prof. Heri Yanto, M.B.A., Ph.D., stressed that the Clean Kitchen and Healthy Canteen policies are concrete steps toward promoting healthy lifestyles while ensuring environmental sustainability. “We want to ensure that all members of the UNNES academic community are not only productive academically but also supported by a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly campus,” he said.
