UNNES DWP Organizes Mental Health Seminar to Promote Gender Equality

In support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) organized a seminar titled “Promoting Students’ Mental Health to Support Quality UNNES for a Indonesia Emas.” The event took place on Friday (06/13/2025) at the Borobudur Room, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNNES.

The seminar featured Dr. Soesmeyka Savitri, S.P.Kj., from Columbia Asia Hospital Semarang, who delivered an in depth presentation on the importance of mental health awareness as a foundation for academic success, emotional balance, and healthy, equitable social relationships. The participants included lecturers, administrative staff, and students, with the majority being women.

Chairperson of DWP UNNES, Karniti S. Martono, emphasized that attention to mental health issues, particularly for women,is an essential component of creating a just, safe, and empowering campus environment.

“Mental health is not merely a personal concern, but a collective responsibility. We believe that through education, open dialogue, and cross sector collaboration, we can shape students who are not only intellectually competent, but also emotionally resilient, socially mature, and globally prepared,” she remarked.

Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. Martono, M.Si., in his opening remarks, underscored that quality education must align with the development of character, faith, piety, and mental resilience, regardless of gender.

“We firmly believe that ideal education not only sharpens intellectual capabilities but also strengthens faith, piety, and students’ mental endurance. These three pillars are vital in shaping a generation that is excellent, ethical, and positively contributes to society,” he affirmed.

This seminar is a tangible expression of UNNES’s commitment as a conservation university that upholds humanitarian values, diversity, and gender equity. Through this initiative, DWP UNNES not only raises awareness on the importance of mental health, but also reinforces the strategic role of women in realizing inclusive and sustainable higher education.
