UNNES Canteens Provide Healthy and Affordable Meals for Students

Access to healthy and affordable food plays a significant role in supporting students’ daily activities on campus. To meet this need, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has established canteen facilities located in the rectorate building and across its nine faculties. Each faculty has 3 to 4 canteens that offer wide variety of menu options.

Each canteen offers a variety of meals that are not only flavorful but also nutritionally balanced and tailored to student needs. Options range from rice-based dishes with vegetables, low oil proteins, to fresh fruit servings all offered at student-friendly prices. The price are considered affordable, with an avarage cost IDR 10.000- IDR 20.000 per portion.

“I usually eat at the faculty canteen because the menu selection is diverse and the prices are still reasonable. From full meals to light snacks, everything is available,” said Alfi, a student from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Several canteens have also introduced healthier alternatives such as meals without MSG, vegetarian options, and fresh beverages like fruit juice. These expanded choices allow students to maintain a healthier diet despite their demanding academic schedules.

In addition to menu variety, cleanliness and comfort remain a priority. Canteen managers routinely maintain hygiene standards in dining areas, while regular evaluations are conducted to ensure consistent food quality and service.

These canteens serve not only as dining facilities but also as communal spaces for the academic community. With a comfortable atmosphere and nutritious food options, students are encouraged to navigate their academic routines with greater ease and well-being.
