As part of its commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), Rumah Amal of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has distributed zakat fitrah to underserved communities in the vicinity of the UNNES campus.
In 2024, a total of 237 zakat fitrah packages were distributed to the poor and underprivileged (fakir miskin and dhuafa) across the regions of Sekaran, Patemon, Persen, Bangkong, Bantardowo, Trangkil, Kalisegoro, and Sukorejo. These zakat fitrah contributions were entrusted to Rumah Amal UNNES by members of the community during Ramadan.
The zakat was received in the form of 3 kilograms of rice or a monetary equivalent of IDR 50,000 per person. All collected donations were responsibly and accurately distributed to 237 designated beneficiaries.
Dr. Iwan Junaedi, M.Pd., Chair of Rumah Amal UNNES, stated that the distribution of zakat fitrah is an annual program conducted every Ramadan, reflecting the social responsibility of the UNNES academic community toward its surrounding environment.
“This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to engage with and contribute to the well-being of the communities around the campus. May the zakat distributed serve as a form of ongoing charity (amal jariyah) for all contributors,” said Dr. Iwan.
In addition to zakat distribution, Rumah Amal UNNES is actively involved in other social welfare programs, including the provision of Tahfidz Scholarships, UKT Assistance Scholarships, and Regular Scholarships (Living Cost Assistance), further strengthening UNNES’s role in fostering a more equitable and prosperous society.
Through such initiatives, UNNES continues to demonstrate its dedication as a conservation-minded and internationally reputable university that actively supports sustainable development and community welfare.
