The Education and Professional Development Institute (LPPP) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has been assigned the institutional task of providing disability services to the academic community since 2023. Disability services fall under the coordination of the Center for Language, Education, Career, Counseling, and Disability.
To strengthen UNNES’s disability service program, LPPP UNNES conducted a crucial benchmarking and discussions at the Disability Directorate of UNESA on Thursday, October 5, 2023. The Disability Directorate of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), which received an award from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2023 as a Disability-Friendly Campus, is considered suitable and a valuable source of information on disability management.
The visit, led directly by the Chairperson of LP UNNES, Prof. Dr. Rodiyah, S.Pd, S.H., M.Si., was received by the Director of Disabilities, Dr. Wagino, M.Pd., along with the team at the UNESA Lidah Wetan Campus Rectorate. The Chairperson of LPPP conveyed UNNES’s need to be more disability-friendly and expressed a desire for information regarding the disability services offered by UNESA.
The Director of the Disabilities Directorate presented UNESA’s disability-related services, including workshops and training centers, disability houses, disability innovations, and advocacy services. UNESA has also developed UNESA-DIMETRIX, which ranks the availability of disability services on an international scale.
The result of benchmarking and discussions is a promising collaborative research between LPPP and the Directorate of Disabilities, planned to be conducted in 2024.
This collaboration opens up opportunities for establishing a Special Education Study Program, Disability Student Services, Technology Innovation for Disability Services, as well as a Disability Shelter.
Specifically, the official launch of the Disability Service will take place on October 12, 2023, marking the beginning of a new era in disability services at UNNES.
