Physical limitations do not hinder the determination to enroll at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). This spirit drives Riko Wahyu Diyanto, a participant with disabilities in the 2022 Joint Selection for State University Entrance (SBMPTN).
Riko is determined to take the Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) 2022 at Universitas Negeri Semarang. He is a disabled athlete in the sport of Boccia representing Central Java, having won a Silver Medal at the Papua National Games (PON) 2021.
Riko expresses his dream of becoming a student in the Psychology Department of the Faculty of Education (FIP) at UNNES. “My dream is to become a student in the Psychology department at FIP UNNES, which is why I am excited to take the UTBK at UNNES,” he explains.
Although Riko initially faced difficulties obtaining information about the UTBK, his perseverance led him to find the information required through close acquaintances.
With a slight stutter, Riko recounts his parents’ initial reluctance regarding his participation in the UTBK due to his physical limitations. “Honestly, my parents were somewhat disapproving due to my physical limitations, but I remained adamant about participating as this is my effort to elevate my parents’ dignity,” he explains.
He believes physical limitations should not be seen as obstacles but as opportunities for progress. “Even as a disabled child, I should be able to attend university despite the difficult challenges I face; I must continue to strive,” Riko states.
According to Riko, UNNES provides excellent services for individuals with special needs, as it caters to and effectively facilitates participants with special requirements. “Alhamdulillah, UNNES is very good at providing services; I have received assistance in every aspect, allowing me to take the UTBK smoothly,” he asserts.
It is noted that UNNES is hosting the Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) 2022 today, Tuesday (May 17). UNNES has prepared 790 computers for the participants to support the examination process. Additionally, UNNES has provided accommodations for participants with disabilities.
UNNES Rector Prof. Fathur Rokhman stated that UNNES, one of the UTBK centers, offers opportunities for participants with special needs to take the UTBK at UNNES. “We have established a New Student Admission Committee (PMB) to organize and support the UTBK implementation, ensuring it runs smoothly and can be attended by participants with special needs. We extend our gratitude to the University Entrance Exam Institute (LTMPT) for entrusting us as one of the UTBK implementation centers,” said Prof. Fathur.
