Strengthening Food Security in Branjang Village: Launch of Gading Mayang Farmer Studio as a Form of SDGs 2 Implementation to Realize Independent and Sustainable Villages
As a tangible manifestation of collaboration between universities and the village community, the institutional launching of the Gading Mayang Farmers Studio and the ratification of the curriculum will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, starting at 14.00 WIB to 16.00 WIB at the Branjang Village BUMDes. This event was designed as a meeting point between academics and the local community with the main agenda of introducing programs, setting curriculum guidelines, and marking the initial operations of the Gading Mayang Farmers Studio. The launching and ratification of the curriculum ran successfully and the atmosphere was colored by new enthusiasm. The series of activities began with opening remarks from the chairman of the committee, chairman of the organization, supervisors, village secretaries, and continued with a presentation of the background of the program and a brief presentation of the steps to be taken for the long term. In addition, the committee provides digital materials as reference materials for local people who want to learn more about the curriculum structure and institutional governance. The venue at BUMDes was chosen to emphasize the direct link between academic activities and MSME empowerment practices, as well as facilitate coordination with administrators and villagers. The launching of the Gading Mayang Farmers Studio and the ratification of the curriculum in Branjang Village are in line with SDG 2: Zero Hunger, which aims to increase food security and reduce hunger through the empowerment of local farmers. By providing sustainable agricultural skills training and appropriate technology transfer, the initiative encourages increased productivity of environmentally friendly agriculture. Success stories in Sumberagung Village, East Java, show how similar programs have succeeded in increasing organic farming yields and increasing farmers’ income through local markets and exports. This success provides a clear example that village community empowerment, with educational support and collaboration between stakeholders, can reduce dependence on food imports and promote sustainable food independence.
The organizing committee that led the activity came from the PPK Ormawa Team and the PPK Ormawa HMPPE 2025 Task Force Team, assisted by several members of the HMPPE ormawa and accompanied by a supervisor Mr. Teguh Hardi Raharjo, M.Pd and the management of BUMDes Branjang Village, while the local community was present as the main partner and target participant. In the Launching of the Farmer Studio and the ratification of this curriculum, the Chairperson of PPK Ormawa and one of our members, namely Annisawidya Iswara and Christine Natalia Dewi. The composition of the attendance was very diverse, ranging from implementing students who held technical roles, lecturers who provided conceptual reinforcement, to local farmers who were given the opportunity to convey real needs in the field. The presence of community leaders and representatives of farming families enriched the discussion with the perspective of Branjang Village so that every decision taken has an empirical and cultural basis. In the introduction session, each group was given the opportunity to introduce their roles and commitments, so that an initial understanding and agreement was created about the division of tasks and communication mechanisms between stakeholders. This participatory approach is intended so that the Gading Mayang Farmers Studio can be managed in an inclusive and sustainable manner by the local community in Branjang Village.
This activity is held with clear operational strategic goals and objectives. First, strengthening the capacity of student organizations (Ormawa) in community empowerment practices. Second, making the Gading Mayang Farmers Studio an institutional forum for the transfer of knowledge and appropriate technology. Third, ratifying a curriculum that is in line with the needs in the field that is prepared so that the people of Branjang Village acquire applicative skills that can contribute to increasing productivity and household income. In addition to technical purposes, this event is also intended to strengthen the network between campuses, BUMDes, and other stakeholders so as to create synergy of funding, training, and market access for Sanggar Tani products. This activity not only introduces programs and sets curriculum guidelines, but is also a tangible manifestation of the implementation of SDGs 2: Zero Hunger at the village level. By providing sustainable agriculture-based training and increasing the productivity of local farmers, Sanggar Tani Gading Mayang seeks to strengthen food security and reduce hunger in Branjang Village, as well as support sustainable food independence.
