Four alumni of Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) embarked on a journey by bicycle from the Unnes campus to Komodo Island in East Nusa Tenggara. They, who will promote conservation vision, were released by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs (PR III), Prof. Dr. Masrukhi, in the Sekaran campus Auditorium courtyard on Monday (23/5).
They are Wartono, a graduate of the Biology Department in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) as the leader of the group; Rif’an Effendi (Accounting in the Faculty of Economics) as the operational coordinator of the journey; Dewan Dwi Anggoro (Non-Formal Education in the Faculty of Education) in charge of logistics and equipment, and Adji Prabowo (Music Art in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences) appointed as the documentation and publication section.
“The themed activity ‘Bike to Campus IKA Unnes Conservation Ride to Komodo Island’ is an event that highlights Unnes’ commitment as a conservation university,” said Wartono.
He said that the trip to Komodo Island would take 40 days. “Starting on May 23, we went through pantura and were divided into several stages, namely Semarang-Rembang (102 km), Rembang-Tuban, Tuban-Surabaya, Surabaya-Porbolinggo, Porbolinggo-Situbondo, Situbondo-Gilimanuk, Gilimanuk Tabanan, Padang Bai, Mataram, Selong, Sumbawa, Dompu, Komodo Island, Flores, and back again cycling to Unnes.”
During the trip, they will inform various parties about Unnes conservation through tree planting and invitations to cycle. For this reason, they will visit Airlangga University Surabaya, State University of Surabaya (Unesa), ITS, Udayana University, Singaraja University, University of Mataram, Nusa Cendana University, Provincial Government, Regional Government, IKA Unnes alumni along with the stage,” said Wartono.
Dr. Masrukhi stated that on behalf of the leadership of Unnes, he was very appreciative of implementing the cycling tour to the place that was quite far. “We hope to prepare as well as possible physically and mentally because even if you are physically strong but not mentally strong, the trip cannot be carried out,” he said.
“Bring out your wandering spirit in traveling, don’t be whiny, don’t beg, but do something useful for the community where you stop and stop,” said the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs.
PR III also said, “At night, look for an area in the countryside to stay overnight. I suggested that at the village head house while holding an event with the village youth organization at night. So that later, you can have sweet memories and bitter memories, and there will be joys and difficulties. I ask you to take care of your emotions during the journey to your destination until you return to Unnes as well as possible.”
