“Blessed Friday” Al Iqtishodi Mosque Realizes SDGs through Friday Prayers and Food Donations
The spirit of religious devotion and social solidarity was strongly evident in the Friday prayers at Al-Iqtishodi Mosque (MAI) on Friday (August 22, 2025).
The special atmosphere was created by the solemnity of worship and by the dominance and enthusiasm of the students who packed the mosque. They came to worship and actively welcomed and participated in the “Blessed Friday Rice” program, a food donation initiative in line with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
After performing Friday prayers, whose sermon was delivered in a straightforward and relevant manner by Mr. H. Risanda Alirastra, S.E., M.SE.I, the congregation—especially the students—did not leave immediately. They waited enthusiastically for the “Nasi Jumat Berkah” distribution prepared by Division III Takmir. Their cheerful faces and spirit of togetherness were evident, indicating that this agenda had created a space for positive social interaction while reducing the burden of daily life, especially for students living away from home.
This activity clearly addresses two SDGs at once. First, it implements SDG 2: Zero Hunger, by providing adequate and nutritious food access to community groups, including students who often have to manage their finances carefully. Second, this activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education, because the mosque functions as a non-formal educational space. Sermons that touch on social issues and are followed up with concrete actions (rice donations) become practical lessons on the values of philanthropy, empathy, and social sensitivity for students.
Moreover, this phenomenon reflects SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Al-Iqtishodi Mosque has transformed from a mere place of worship into a center of civilization and inclusive community strengthening, uniting various elements such as mosque administrators, professionals, and young intellectuals (students). This success is also in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which is realized through collaboration between the mosque administrators as organizers and the community (including students’ parents and benefactors) who contribute to increasing the number of rice packages.
Seeing the enthusiasm and positive impact created, the Takmir MASJID AL-IQTISHODI plans to make “Jumat Berkah” a sustainable program. They are also opening up wider opportunities for students and other members of the academic community to not only be beneficiaries, but also to be involved in planning and distribution, so that the values of leadership and volunteerism can be instilled. Those wishing to contribute on future Fridays should contact the Masjid Management Committee.
