About our Faculty

History

The development of the Sports Science Faculty of Universitas Negeri Semarang, previously known as the Faculty of Sports and Health Education under the auspices of Semarang Teacher Training and Education Institute which also known as Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Semarang (IKIP Semarang), begun with the establishment of various educational institutions of Physical Education teacher above the high school level. These teacher education institutions were:

Sekolah Tinggi Olahraga (STO) or Higher Education of Sports

On January 1st, 1961, by Decree of the Secretary-General of the Department of Education, Teaching and Culture No. 108487/S dated December 27th, 1960, Course B-I and Course B-II were integrated into Diponegoro University (UNDIP) in Semarang and became a faculty called Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan known as FKIP). FKIP UNDIP had a branch in Surakarta, integrating the B-I course and the B-II course held in Surakarta. In 1963, the Department of Physical Education, which initially was part of the B-II course and later became part of the FKIP UNDIP, was separated and became Higher Education of Sports (STO). Since its establishment by the Decree of the Minister of Sports No.23 of 1963 dated April 19th, 1963; the STO then stand under the Department of Sports.

Integration of Lembaga Pembinaan Pembaharuan Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan known as LP3K (Institution for Education and Cultural Renewal) and STO

The Department of Education and Culture established LP3K with Decree No. 065 of 1967, dated August 21st, 1967. This institution aimed to revitalize formal education in villages with the demands of life and rural areas’ modernization. Therefore, IKIP Semarang, which nowadays known as Universitas Negeri Semarang, was considered the most appropriate to manage the institution. The LP3K Department of Education and Culture, located in Ungaran, was then integrated into IKIP Semarang with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 6222/1970 dated November 25th, 1970. The progress of sports in Indonesia depends primarily on the preparation of sports teachers for various sports fields and various general stages; thus, the Minister of Education and Culture integrated STO Semarang into IKIP Semarang with the Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 042/O/77 dated February 22nd, 1977. Thus, the sports teacher education program returned to the Teaching and Sports Faculty (Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Keolahragaan or FKIK).
