Inovasi merupakan pembaharuan atau pengenalan hal-hal baru. Ini penting dan harus ada pada semua aspek kehidupan, tanpa kecuali di Madrasah sebagai lembaga pendidikan yang lebih tua dari usia negara ini. Madrasah Qudsiyyah Kudus, sebagai contoh, baru saja memperingati  100 tahun atau 1 Abad Qudsiyah (menggunakan kalender hijriyah). Ini lebih tua dari Taman Siswa di Yogyakarta, satu lembaga pendidikan yang dianggap paling tua dan menjadi kiblat pendidikan di Indonesia.

Meskipun berusia tua, secara umum bermutu rendah, terutama madrasah swasta. Berdasarkan data Kementerian Agama, madrasah yang tidak baik hanya memperoleh akreditasi C atau bahkan belum terakreditasi sebanyak 40%.  “Karena itu, penelitian ini berfokus pada empat aspek, yaitu orientasi mutu, bentuk inovasi, faktor pendukung dan penghambat inovasi, serta karakteristik model inovasi. Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengkaji model inovasi pendidikan berorientasi mutu pada MI,” kata Aji Sofanudin, S.Pd.I., M.Si., peneliti muda Balai Penelitian dan Pengembangan Agama Semarang  ketika mengikuti ujian tebuka Program Doktor Manajemen Kependidikan, Kamis 15 Desember, di kampus Bendan Ngisor Program Pascasarjana (PPs) Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes).

Doktor ke-238 Unnes ini mempertahankan disertasi “Model Inovasi Pendidikan Berorientasi Mutu pada Madrasah Ibtidaiyah: Studi pada Madrasah Partnerhsip, Madrasah Berbasis Pesantren, dan Madrasah Model” di bawah bimbingan promotor Prof. Dr. Fathur Rokhman, M.Hum., kopromotor Prof. Dr. Wasino, M.Hum., dan anggota promotor Prof. Dr. Rusdarti, M.Si. Ia meraih predikat dengan pujian sebagai doktor yang menempuh studi tercepat angkatan studi 2013.

Temuan pada MI Sunniyah II Selo Grobogan menerapkan top down innovation model. Pada model ini, inovasi muncul karena adanya kebijakan dari Kementerian Agama RI dalam bentuk program MEDP ADB (madrasah education development program Australian Development Bank). Inovasi muncul karena adanya regulasi dan kebijakan dari kementerian agama.

Dari penelitian ini diperoleh asumsi bahwa setiap organisasi inovatif terdiri atas pribadi-pribadi inovatif. Semakin banyak pribadi inovatif dalam sebuah organisasi maka organisasi tersebut semakin mudah dan cepat melakukan inovasi. Faktor kepemimpinan menjadi faktor yang dominan dalam setiap level organisasi. Selain itu, penelitian ini menghasilkan model inovasi pendidikan berorientasi mutu pada MI yang merupakan gabungan tiga domain mutu, yakni mutu standar, mutu keagamaan, dan mutu sains.

“Ke depan MI perlu menerapkan berbagai inovasi pendidikan dalam kerangka peningkatan mutu berdasar dengan kondisi faktual masing-masing madrasah dan orientasi mutu yang dikembangkan,” katanya.
