Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), as a\u00a0Conservation University<\/em>, continues to expand its role in environmental stewardship by\u00a0collaborating actively with local communities and foundations<\/strong>\u00a0to protect mangrove ecosystems, manage water bodies, and promote sustainable aquaculture. These initiatives highlight UNNES\u2019s commitment to integrating local ecological knowledge with academic research and student engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mangrove Ecosystem Conservation in Tambakrejo and Tugurejo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNNES partners with\u00a0Green Community<\/mark><\/a>, Mahapala<\/mark><\/a>, and <\/strong>Pelatuk student organizations<\/strong>\u00a0<\/mark>to support mangrove conservation through planting, rehabilitation, and environmental education. In\u00a0Tambakrejo<\/strong>, UNNES researchers and students collaborate with community-based conservation groups such as\u00a0KPL Camar<\/strong>, combining scientific methods with local ecological knowledge to restore degraded coastal zones. In\u00a0Tugurejo<\/strong>, UNNES student groups like KSG-SAC have organized mangrove planting and rehabilitation programs, planting thousands of seedlings to combat coastal abrasion and strengthen biodiversity (UNNES Mangrove Rehabilitation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable Aquaculture and Community Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNNES integrates sustainable aquaculture practices<\/strong> into its conservation programs, introducing communities to eco-friendly farming systems that reduce environmental impact. In Tambakrejo, residents were introduced to integrated farming systems<\/strong> that combine aquaculture with agriculture to improve livelihoods while protecting ecosystems (Suaramerdeka Report).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

River and Water Body Management in Kaligarang and Sekaran<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNNES collaborates with residents and the Bintari Foundation<\/strong> to manage water bodies such as the Kaligarang River<\/strong>and the Sekaran water retention basin (embung)<\/strong>. These systems serve as rainwater reservoirs, flood prevention mechanisms, and biodiversity habitats<\/strong>, ensuring sustainable water governance in urban and peri-urban areas (UNNES Embung; Bintari Foundation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student-Led Conservation and Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNNES students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA)<\/strong> and other faculties actively participate in field excursions, mangrove monitoring, and environmental workshops<\/strong>. These activities strengthen conservation awareness among youth while embedding sustainability into academic learning (UNNES FMIPA Excursion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
