This initiative forms part of UNNES’s Green Campus and sustainability agenda, aimed at promoting an environmentally conscious and healthy academic environment.

UNNES has developed 5 kilometers of pedestrian pathways designed to be safe, shaded, and separated from motor vehicle routes. These pathways connect major areas of the campus, including faculty buildings, the central library, and the student activity center. Each route is designed with attention to comfort and safety, featuring natural shading, sufficient lighting, and resting areas for pedestrians.

The construction of these pedestrian paths reflects UNNES’s concrete effort to encourage sustainable mobility and reduce carbon emissions on campus. In addition to building walkways, the university has restricted motor vehicle access in certain zones—particularly in academic and student activity areas—to create a quieter, cleaner, and more comfortable learning environment.

This initiative aligns with UNNES’s vision as a Conservation University with an International Outlook, which emphasizes harmony between academic excellence and environmental preservation. By integrating pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, UNNES aims to cultivate a walking culture among students, lecturers, and staff as part of a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle.

Through this initiative, UNNES strengthens its role as a leading institution in implementing sustainable campus management and promoting conservation-based living in higher education across Indonesia.

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) continues to demonstrate its commitment to developing a conservation-oriented campus through the creation of eco-friendly pedestrian pathways.
