Semarang, October 2025 \u2014 In an era where Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become inseparable from daily life, the importance of understanding and using AI wisely has never been greater. Responding to this need, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Semarang State University (UNNES), in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), held an Expert Study titled \u201cWise Use of AI for Middle and High School Students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This initiative aligns with the global agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by promoting digital literacy, critical thinking, and innovation ethics among young learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at SMIT Bina Amal, Gunungpati, Semarang, featuring two expert speakers: Dr. Tri Sri Noor Asih, M.Sc. from FMIPA UNNES and Associate Professor Dr. Norma Alias from UTM. Both speakers engaged students in an interactive discussion exploring their understanding of AI and its role in education, social media, and daily problem-solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the session, Dr. Tri Sri Noor Asih emphasized that AI should serve as a tool to enhance human creativity and reasoning, not replace them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAI is like a double-edged sword. When used wisely, it can accelerate learning, enhance research, and support innovation. But when overused, it can weaken students\u2019 critical thinking and creativity,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Dr. Norma Alias highlighted the importance of maintaining a balanced approach between human intelligence and artificial intelligence, encouraging students to keep developing logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event concluded with an open discussion where students enthusiastically shared their experiences in using AI for school assignments, personal projects, and entertainment. The discussion revealed students\u2019 growing curiosity and awareness about how AI impacts their learning and daily decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through this activity, FMIPA UNNES and UTM reaffirmed their commitment to advancing SDG 4 and SDG 9 by equipping younger generations with the skills, ethics, and awareness needed to navigate the digital era responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a Conservation University, UNNES continues to integrate sustainability values into education, research, and community service\u2014ensuring that technology, including AI, is used not only intelligently but also ethically and sustainably to build a better future for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
