Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) shows its strong commitment to inclusive education through innovation. Dr. Drs. Sugiman, M.Si., a lecturer from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, has created the Mathematical Fraction Abacus, a fun and interactive tool that helps children with special needs understand fractions more easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This idea came from his concern about the education system, which asks children with special needs to follow the same curriculum and national exams as other students, as stated in the Ministry of Education Regulation No. 70 of 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mathematical Fraction Abacus uses visual and hands-on methods, making learning more simple and enjoyable. With its colorful design and easy steps, it opens wider access to fair education for all children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI use five principles that I call MAMAK: Mudah (Easy), Aman (Safe), Menyenangkan (Fun), Awet (Long-lasting), and Khusus (Special). With these principles, the tool can be used not only in the lab but also in special schools across Indonesia,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This innovation also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. It shows how research can bring real solutions to make education more equal and inclusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
