The Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has officially welcomed the placement of a Junior Expert from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support the development of Japanese language education and strengthen sustainable international cooperation. The assigned foreign expert, Maho Shinoto, will serve from February 25, 2025, to February 25, 2027.
This placement is part of a broader effort to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in providing quality education and fostering global partnerships. It facilitates the exchange of academic knowledge, culture, and teaching methodologies between Indonesia and Japan. The presence of this Junior Expert is expected to make a significant contribution to enhancing the quality of Japanese language learning at UNNES.
This initiative underscores the importance of international collaboration in higher education as a vital step toward campus internationalization and the expansion of global academic networks. The placement not only adds academic value but also opens opportunities for intercultural learning and the cultivation of mutually beneficial cooperation. Such experiences are anticipated to strengthen tolerance, collaboration, and mutual understanding across cultures within the university environment.
Dr. Lispridona Diner, M.Pd., Coordinator of the Japanese Language Education Program, stated that this collaboration will greatly support the internal capacity building of the program, benefiting both faculty members and students.
“With the presence of Ms. Maho Shinoto, our students will gain first-hand experience learning directly from a native speaker, and authentically explore Japanese work culture and communication styles,” she explained.
Dr. Lispridona further elaborated that Maho Shinoto will be involved in various activities, including classroom learning assistance, curriculum development, and training in Japanese language and culture. She will also play a role in expanding academic and internship-related partnerships with institutions in Japan.
This program also aligns with UNNES’s vision as a conservation-minded university with international standing. By leveraging global resources, UNNES aims to broaden students’ access to meaningful international experiences and intercultural learning.
The placement of this Junior Expert symbolizes the strong educational partnership between Indonesia and Japan. Through JICA, the Japanese government affirms its commitment to supporting the sustainable development of human resources in Indonesia.
Moreover, this placement serves as a momentum to encourage other international programs based on sustainable development values, while raising student awareness of the importance of active participation in addressing global challenges.
Through this collaboration, UNNES continues to strengthen its strategic role as an adaptive educational institution, open to international cooperation, and committed to producing globally competitive graduates with strong character and cultural awareness.
